Default Concern about the lack of restrictions in Firefight.

I've been thinking that Firefight has potential to be a lot of fun with the spawn system that you guys described. But I'm worried about the lack of class restrictions.

By not restricting the classes, we'll probably have the big majority of players, playing that mode, and playing it with what would otherwise restricted weapons, with the sole purpose of leveling them up.

It could potentially take away lots of the players from the other two modes, as it would become the official "level up" mode, instead of the fun mode is intended to be.

Don't underestimate the human impulse to level up. With your experience with Killing Floor, you should know that yourselves. A lot of people will always prioritize grind, over having actual fun, thats why people actually pay fees for an MMO.

I can think of two different solutions:
1- Add class restriction.
2- Disable leveling in Firefight.

Edit:
3- Keep the squad system with class restriction, and that way, you also get to spawn near your actual steam friends. The only difference is that instead of spawning near your squad leader like in territory, you'll spawn closer to where most of your squad mates are.

Since you basically only gain points from kills in firefight it should be slower too level up. But maybe you level up your weapon stats only by killing? If so I think it should be made so you get primary and secondary points. Like if you kill with a rifle you get one rifle point but for every five rifle points you gain a rifleman point. And for every five riflemen points you gain a rifle point.

Well, like it or not, some people love the idea of sniper-only matches and things like that.

In fact I think it's those sorts of matches that are keeping games like UT99 alive these days.

Not saying I like it any, though.

Disabling ranking for firefight sounds reasonable, assuming it already isn't disabled since everyone has access to every weapon anyway (if I heard right in the GDC videos).

Chalk up another idea that may be resolved with further information I suppose.

I say allow everything regarding classes with fire fight, just allow servers to limit the classes if they want.

Want a sniper only server, so be it. Want a rifle only server, so be it. Bayonet only, so be it. Arena mutators have always been popular with games, seeing that option by default would be nice.

Regarding statistics and levelling, I rather have people that only care about levelling and killing to play fire-fight, than having them play games where team play is a necessity to get a good game. I think fire fight will be a great mode to blow off some steam and just have some crazy fun.

The more I think of it the more it makes sense to have firefight without class restriction, or something in between. I am not sure how the classes are restricted on the other servers, but it just feels wrong to deny people the ability to play with the weapon they want to play with.

It is better a crappy sniper gets to use the sniper in firefight then in territory.

Perhaps in Firefight mode, limit the experience gained to a certain percentage of that in the other modes, say 25-50%.

This way you can still play that mode for just fun if you want, but it will be take more time to level up...

Just a thought

Haha, I often let people get wounded in KF so I can heal them and level up xD

Yeah,

but i'd rather have them grinding Classes / Weapons in a Gamemode, that i'll probably not play very often, than having them in the Gamemodes i'll prefer to play.

just my 2 Cents.

P.S.
And no Class Restrictions is okay for some Fun Times .

I think no level-up in firefight would be good. If you get all weapons in this mode, why would you need to level them up anyway?

Oh God leveling in firefight would be horrible, people would play firefight for hours on end, just to level up for other game modes.

I would imagine you could level up more efficiently by playing territory and capping objectives.

There is player level, and levels for every weapon, separately.

Limited classes will be harder to level, because you won't be able to use them as much as you want.

If there is a mode that allows you to level one of those rare weapons without complication, then that mode will be used almost exclusively to level them up.

Even without the leveling system, there is no reason anymore to pick a regular rifle over a sniper, as the snipers now feature iron sights for close range too.

I actually would like more info on the Firefight mode, before i'd comment on changes. But so far no Class Limits sounds okay for me.

Yeah but Snipers have the Scopes blocking part of your View.

Which is sortof a silly thing to say since shooting zeds is basically all you can do in Killing Floor, upgrades or not.

Shoot zeds for 30 hours and get nothing, or shoot zeds for 30 hours and get an upgrade? The game loses its spark pretty quick when you're all maxed out, let me tell you.

But, if you don't like shooting zeds at all... Well...

Firefight is fine and you should be able to rank in the same way as the other games. Aanyone who is serious about RO2 will max the leveling system in no time. So what and who cares. No need to change a thing. People are going to want to learn each weapon and FF is the perfect game for it. TDM is one of the most popular games in COD. There are more TDM servers than anything else. It's smart that TWI opened up all the classes and made a version of TDM. I want to spend time practicing what I like to play. I don't care if I get mowed down by an MG all the time. I've practiced in FFA auto servers and it was one of the best things for practice I've ever done for my bolt play. Big guns don't equal great play.

no ranking in firefight, I think that firefight should be just a way of playing and learning the game with other people.

I don't think there should be any leveling restrictions for firefight mode. Like some have said, I'm sure it would be more difficult to level up in firefight because of the lack of the many ways of team support points you would be able to gain in the other modes. I just think it would be ridiculous, especially if there were some people that would prefer firefight mode than the others.
