Default The "supression" bar

In case you haven't already seen it, here's GDC gameplay footage showing the supression effect around 3 mins in http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gd...chestra/711634

Personally, I don't think the current implementation of the suppression bar is the best. I know it's far too early to make suggestions and it'll probably get changed anyway, but I'd like to throw this idea out there regardless:

Change the supression bar to the adrenaline bar. The thing about "suppression" is that it's not a physical variable, treating it as one creates the feeling of an RPG "status effect" or condition. Instead, have two bars, stamina and adrenaline.

Stamina refers to how winded you are and how long you can sprint for. Adrenaline shows how much adrenaline you have in your blood and directly affects how you handle weapons.

If you get shot at, your adrenaline goes up from the psychological rush, you hear your heartbeat palpitate and the screen desaturates to show how you're on the edge of your wits. If you run, you get tired soon, causing your breathing to become rapid, at the same time your adrenaline would go up and you'd have the same effects.

In RO1 low stamina caused poor gun handling, instead of having 2 different variables in RO2 that determine that just have the adrenaline tied to suppression effects and stamina.

I don't think you even need a bar, if suppression effects are implemented correctly, it's self evident when you are and when you aren't. Even if you are new to the game, you'll quickly figure it out.

Might as well have a bar in "tactical view" though, can't hurt.

Yeah I don't understand the point of a suppression bar. The entire point of suppression effects are so you know when you are suppressed, (in this case, color saturation), not a stupid bar that tells you... The logic behind it doesn't seem to make any sense.

I hate anything that makes me listen to some foolish hearbeat noise.

As far as the bar being on the screen, maybe it's another one of those things that can be set to appear only when the HUD on Demand button is pressed.

I hope so, why go for a minimal HUD but put some weird suppression bar on it?

I think that the bar kills the immersion

Who cares what it is or what it does.
90% of us will turn it off anyway.

Completely agree here. Not a matter of realism or not. It just doesn't make sense.

Ya I don't see the point of the bar either. Honestly disappointed with the suppression, doesn't look nearly strong enough.

I think that those bars might just be there for demoing?

Either way I hope the bars are gone for the realism mode, and that it takes longer to acquire and loose suppression effects. Three bullets and the guy in that video was having a heart attack..

I still haven't heard any good reason to have a suppression bar present. Your screen desaturates and you hear heartbeat for example. If you have that why would I look down to check the bar?

Also, maybe i am going death or my boxes are broken, but what heartbeat?
Listened to it twice but I haven't heart any heartbeat during the suppression demo. The voice-over really obscures any suppression sound present.

Are your ears so good or mine so bad?

There was definitely a heartbeat in the demo, and a muffling of all other sounds

Nope, it's there.
