A great feature that I particularly like in KF is that when selecting a character, you get a brief description of the person you choose. Though this doesn't add or detract from the game play at all, it's a nice little feature, and I find it adds to the game itself without being too distracting once you get into the heat of killing specimens. Perhaps Red Orchestra HOS could implement this feature too, to some extent at least.
It'd work something like this: Every time you spawn, you can press a key to bring up a screen which displays a character that has been randomly assigned to you with a random back-story. You'd be able to see what your character looks like, but of course wouldn't be able to customize/change him. This might appease all the folks who want character customization too: though you wouldn't be able to change your character (because no one can change who they are or what they look like), you'd at least be able to see something that would explain how you as a Russian/German might have ended up in this battle. And plus, for when people obtain hero-status, maybe their back stories could get tweaked with some sort of explanation of the "heroic" feat they accomplished. Of course a big problem with this would that Tripwire would have to create many, many back-stories in order to keep it fresh (as in over 40 for each side). However, if these were kept relatively short, such as 7-10 sentences each, maybe it wouldn't be that huge of a problem. Could be silly. Let me know what you all think. |

A feature that I particularly like in KF is that when selecting a character, you get a brief description of the person you choose. Perhaps HoS could implement this feature too, as long as it wouldn't prove to be a big hassle.
It'd work something like this: Every time you spawn (or each round) you can press a key to bring up a screen which displays your character, who has been randomly assigned to you with a random back-story to boot. Hopefully this would give people some extra background goodness explaining how you as a Russian/German might have ended up in this battle. Also, maybe people with Hero status would get different back-stories. Of course a big problem with this would that Tripwire would have to create many different back-stories in order to keep it fresh for multiplayer (as in over 40 for each side). However, if these were kept relatively short, such as 5-10 sentences each, maybe it wouldn't be that huge of a problem. Overall, could be cheesy, and of course this is a feature that is far from necessary, but I feel it would be a nice "extra" thing to see in the game. Let me know what you all think.

If we have the ability to choose a character/face I don't see why not.
I'm sure reading the same ol' "Conscripted into service" lines would get old after a while though lol. |

First off, sorry for the double topic post. Thought it didn't register when I didn't see the thread immediately. Ah well. Back to the topic.
Perhaps this might not work as well in multiplayer, seeing as that's mostly what people will be playing long after release and true, it could get old because there'd never be enough stories to keep it fresh, but maybe it might work if it's restricted to single-player only. But then again, they probably have a MUCH more indepth singleplayer background, so, dunno really . Just throwing ideas out there.

Pretty much worthless in a game like RO. At least for the MP portion of the game.
We're playing a normal soldiers in RO, not some special character like in KF or L4D. I'd rather see better descriptions on the weapons and vehicles. Basic stats that tell you the ammunition capacity, the range, caliber ect. At least that would be of use gameplay wise for newer players. |

yeh I'd love to see better weapons descriptions too, maybe even some instruction, like a soldiers hand book... ie: Point the weapon at the enemy, pull the trigger... :P
