Darkest Hour: Normandy Trailer Release

We are happy to see that the Mod teams are pushing the boundaries - now we have a brand new trailer from the Darkest Hour: Normandy team. The trailer showcases their rendition of Dog Green Sector, Omaha Beach, 6th June 1944. The video is available from their website or from Filefront - click HERE.
Some of us have played this one in testing - should be a real heart-stopper when it gets released! There is a whole bunch more material on their website, so we'll just show you a few samplers here first and then you should click on the logo above and take a look at the rest of their work. Head over to the Darkest Hour website and see what else they have in the pipeline!

Nice work people. Hopefully with the 64 player code soon to be released the map will shine.

Damn we better start work on something to release for MN...

I can't wait to pwn some Germans with the M1 Garand, and the M1A1 Carbine! IT's going to bring back memories of COD single play, but it will all be online gameplay with other players. IE a real war zone not just a run and gun spam fest like COD online is!

It would have made a better trailer to run the Dog Green map on a 50 player server, 4 guys running up the beach is a wee bit underwhelming

Exactly right, this is just a teaser video when we get the 50 players server code and get the Pilot release out, expect a more hectic and realistic feeling than the video shows off.

The Higgins boats are not moving as they should because they are placeholder MOVERS, until we get them coded as Vehicles.

The sea movement as I think I have said before, creating decent water effects is very hard to acheive in RO. the sea does flow in and out you cannot see the overall effect of it in the Video.

All I will say is in testing we have seen that the allies will have virtually the same experience getting off the beach as they did on June 6th 1944.

yes a great deal of the coding for the rough edges has been done we are just waiting on final anims etc...and its a bit hard to run Dog Green on a 50 man server wen it hasnt been released yet.. ne way the trailer is just a teaser to show off some of our WIP work and just 1 of our maps.

On the water issue though I find it strange that RO can't have decent looking water, I remember BiA had nice looking water and that was using the same engine wasn't it?

I asked the same question awhile ago at the Gearbox BiA forum about how they did their water surfaces. Found out from one of the developers that they heavily modded the Unreal Engine for a variety of effects they created for the game. Same goes for the effect weather has on foliage in the game...it's just a little more than using texpanners or oscillators. although in RO this can work nicely as I found out myself. But generally speaking, BiA's goodies are all hard coded.
