Server A Few questions hopefully some good answers :)

I have a few questions on getting our server up and running and hopefully someone has some answers :)

1.) Maps on the Steam Workshop, how do we add those custom maps onto a dedicated RO 2 server. I installed RO2 Server via steamcmd, but clueless on how to get custom maps from the workshop onto the server.

2.) WebAdmin is not saving the settings to the .ini file. It keeps it for that current session, but if I stop the server and reload from the bat file it seems as though WebAdmin only writes for that session. Is this normal?

3.) Also is it normal for pings to jump when more people are on? We are running a E3-1240 @ 3.4ghz, with 32 gigs of ram. I have the affinities for RO2 Parked on 0,1 for Core 1. Any suggestions and help would be great!

The steam workshop is only there for the players. The player and server files are not the same. Server admins are supposed to find the server version here and/or here. That last one is a single thread and only mappers are allowed to post there and only for map updates. You can simply subscribe to that thread and will receive an email as soon as a new map or new map version becomes available.

This is something at your servers side. If you run a rented server, then contact the game server provider from which you rent it. Most likely they have the rights of the ROGame\Config folder incorrectly set (no write access for the RO2 server). If that's the case, then the settings will revert to default after each server restart (like you describe).
If your server is on your own managed box, then it probably is sandboxed by your firewall or anti-virus software. In that case you need to tell your firewall and anti-virus software that ROGame.exe is a trusted application.

Awesome stuff Ducky! So this is a Windows 2008 Server managed by us, we have full remote desktop into the server. Also where do we place the downloaded maps for the server on the server? Thanks again!

The downloaded server map files (the files with the extentions .upk) go into the <ServerRoot>\ROGame\CookedPCServer folder, where <ServerRoot> stands for the root RO2 server folder (for instance D:\RO2Server). Do not try to organize the map files in the <ServerRoot>\ROGame\CookedPCServer folder by making sub-directories in that folder, it will cause your server to crash.
The configuration files (the files with extention .ini) go into <ServerRoot>\ROGame\Config. And the locatization files go into <ServerRoot>\ROGame\Localization\<LocationId>. The <LocationId> is equal to the extention of the localization files. In most cases it's INT. Thus all .int files go into <ServerRoot>\ROGame\Localization\INT and all .deu files go into <ServerRoot>\ROGame\Localization\DEU.

You will need to restart your server after adding any new map.

PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

One last question in regard to custom maps. If a custom map is not on the redirect list of tripwire. Is there a way to set the map to be downloaded by our server? So say theres a map blahblah. We have all the server files on our server. But the tripwire redirect does not have that map in the list. Can we set up on our server that our server is the one that hosts the client map so people can auto download from the Dedicated server instead of tripwires redirect sinces it's not there?

So users would have to manually download the map?

Either that or arrange a redirect managed by you. An other option would be to install a http server on that windows 8 box and use it as redirect server. If your box is powerful enough and if it has multiple cores, then it can run without huring the RO2 server performance. Keep in mind that the internet speed of the server also needs to be fast enough. If your box doesn't fit the requirements, then your RO2 server will become very lagi.

Is there any tutorials to this? We have an 4 Core E3-1240 @ 3.4ghz. 32gb of Ram. We have 2 boxes that can support downloads, main server and 2nd server. So how do we go about setting up a redirect server?

Your rig is good.

Redirect is entry in ROEngine.ini file. Here you are:

[IpDrv.HTTPDownload]
RedirectToURL=http://domain/dir/

Replace domain with your download server ip or name. dir is the directory there. Don't forget final slash after dir.

Do you have to have any text document in that directory saying what files are in there? or do you just plop the Client side file in that directory and let the redirect in the ROGame.ini do its job?

For server hosting, we have a Hyper Threaded Xeon, so 7 affinities, is it better to just park it on 1, or 2? I know RO2 is supposed to be a single core server. Should it be parked on just say 0, or 0 and 1 since it's the same core? We have been having some ping spikes after 40+ players join on a 3.4 ghz Xeon.
Seems to me that your E3-1240 is not running in turbo.
At 3.4hz you may well cap out the CPU at around 50+ players.
Your core affinity is fine at 0,2,4,or 6
Using a low latency Gaming provider for your hosting such as a gsp is a must.
As their networks are more specialized in providing optimized gaming networks for game server hosting.
At TWB we reccomend GamingDeluxe.co.uk in the EU and NFOservers.com in the US.;)
Hope it helps and welcome to the community.
