Pretty sure their not in the game now but I'd like to see them added as dlc marine life our shark can chomp on. Eating mermaids could give us bonuses and lots of health.
Wasn't sold when I read the title, but the idea that they give you some special bonus kind of sold me - making them harder to catch (because of a supposed human-like intelligence added onto their natural water ability) would be a good trade off to a bonus of some sort (speed, maybe intelligence or something like that?)
To add to that idea, you could make them (or some of them maybe?) a "not-so-average mermaid" if you will. Pulling inspiration from the "Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides" movie, why not make some or all of them the "Evil" mermaid, the fang-toothed sirens of the deep?
Make some of them the innocent type, where you get a moderate bonus for catching/eating them, or, make some of them trickster types. You spot a lone mermaid and attempt to chase it down, only to be lured into a mermaid-ambush. 5-10 of these sharp-toothed seductresses appear from out of nowhere, and now it's a battle to the death. Survive, and the bonus you'd otherwise get from single-kill is now an epic bonus for surviving an ambush.
Might be a little far-fetched, just throwing it out there.
Maybe if they were just humans dressed as mermaids for some sort of mermaid festival. But i think mythical creatures don't suit the games overall narrative.
Maybe on a small special event Halloween update, male humans can dress up in shark outfits and female humans can dress up in mermaid outfits. Otherwise, can't see it really working or making the game more fun, tbh. But I understand wanting to see them just for the heck of it.
