Its a bold claim for now but understand I'm not saying that updates aren't good but I am saying its a pain to download both the game and the update. I have downloaded killing floor 2 twice as it uninstalled itself randomly and then I try installing the update and boom "content file locked" I've tried everything which includes: Running steam as an admin, Downloading the whole game again, turning off my anti-virus and firewall, verifying the game files and using "netsh winsock reset" in cmd. anyone got any fixes or help they can offer?

[h=1]Disk Read or Write Error or Content File Locked[/h]
If when installing or updating a game on Steam displays one of these messages:
  • "An error occurred while updating [game title] (disk write/read error)"
  • "An error occurred while installing [game title] (disk write/read error)"
  • "An error occurred while updating [game title] (content file locked)"
Causes:
  • A file Steam needs to access is locked and cannot be opened or edited. This usually happens when the game in question is currently running, or any of its files are opened on another program.
  • File is opened for scanning or quarantined by your Anti Virus software by real time filesystem scanning. This is also known as a false positive.
Possible solutions:
  • Close the game that fails to update with the error
  • Usually restarting Steam or your PC helps too.
  • Exclude game's or Steam's folders from your antivirus scans.
  • Temporarily shutdown your antivirus completely.
Here's also an official Steam Support article about this issue:

Are you still facing the issue? Retuning winsock will resolve it. Here is the useful resource to check: https://validedge.com/steam-content-file-locked/

Hi @TheDealer, sometime ago I faced the same problem and disable the antivirus, reinstall steam but nothing help me to fix the problem. Then I found a good solution that helps me
1. Open Steam and open the Settings
2. Go to the Downloads tab
3. Click on STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS
4. Now click on ADD LIBRARY FOLDER
5. On the new window that opens, you need to locate or create the folder where you will move your game contents.
add new library
Once you add a library folder you need to move your game data to that folder:
1. Open Steam and navigate to Library > Games
2. Rightclick on your game and then Properties.
3. Go to LOCAL FILES
4. Click on the button MOVE INSTALL FOLDER and select the new location.
5. Finally, restart your computer to see if the error has been fixed.
