I just got the lvl 50 K98 and C-3 is no sight hood. Bolt action rifles like the Type 38 and Springfield have no sight hood while the others do.

You still can click on C3 and you have your hood back on, I have no prob with or without them so I didn

It depends. I don't like the Type 99's sights, but I like most others'. In case of the Kar98, I'd say I like the version with the sight hood slightly more.

If I have the time I try and downgrade my K98 to the version with the sight hood, then bayonet/without bayonet depending upon the map. I can't say I'm that bothered though. Bayo/no bayo is more of an issue for me. If I could have the l.50 K98 without bayonet I would.

The issue for me is whether or not the sight hood helps or detracts from the tracking of moving targets. The sight hood is supposed to make it easy to triangulate the rifle towards the general area of the target. I think it helps with stationary targets but moving targets (long range) may cause problems.
I still need to experiment more with the kar just to see if there's any improvement.
For the most part, I have avoided the Springfield and the type 38 precisely because they don't have sight hoods and elongated tics.

I am now firmly in favor of no sight hood for the K98. It makes tracking fast moving, zig-zagging/crouched targets easier. The difference is small but noticeable. I have gotten kills where I otherwise would not.

While I like the Karabiner's sight hood, I'd still prefer to not have it.
Similarly to that I enjoy shooting the Type 38, although it seems that I aim more accurately with the Type 99 - strange

The Type 38 is amazing; it feels like I'm dropping Yankees much faster than with any other Japanese weapon; it's much superior to the Japanese fixed MGs, IMHO.
Aiming with the Type 99 is... well, it's not as bad as with the American M1 or the 'improved' Type 100, but it's not good either...
