Tactics Sharpshooter Loadout

Used to be M14+LAR on 4-player HoE achievement runs. I haven't played in ages so I don't know what the new guns are like.

Reason? (4-player HoE perspective)

  • Scrake specialist: Stun-locking with a single head-shot with the LAR while switching to the M14 to shoot its face more or other Zeds before it wakes up. LAR in the head again and repeat. You have team mates who can specialise in other things, like room clearing and Fleshpounds.

  • Ammo capacity: On HoE, there is an unbelievable amount of Zeds to kill in Wave 10 (4-players), and you will be struggling for ammo for the classic Hand Cannon+XBow combination.

  • Money efficiency: The aim of HoE is not only survival, but ammo efficiency. You will not have enough money to buy full clips for all your weapons, especially if you have armour. M14+LAR's ammo is arguably cheaper than the XBow+HC for the same function.

  • Killing efficiency: To further expand the point of ammo efficiency and the cost to buy more, you should be using the gun that will result in the least overkill. Doing otherwise and you will run out of ammo and money. The M14+LAR was a great combination for this as you could switch between the guns (with the pistol) to ensure the least amount of overkill.
This info is pretty outdated now. I'm starting to get back into the game though for some HoE fun on the new maps.

Musket and M14. You have more ammo than HC and Crossbow plus I prefer to use this loadout against Fleshpounds. Crossbow is too slow for me when killing Fleshpounds. If there is a Demo or Support(which knows how to kill Fleshpounds) then I would use Crossbow/Handcannon loadout. Crossbow loadout is better if you are at the back of the team though.

Four HC shots to kill a husk.

And this is why you should use a single HC. :p
HC takes 2 shots to kill Husks and Sirens, 9-10 to kill Scrakes (I think it is 10, but I no a lot shoot one more shot than necessary when mini flinching, so I can't be sure), and it destroys all trash. Pair it with an M14 and you're golden (get it, the Gold Handcannon? Yeah? Yeah? .... You guys suck :(). Dualies tend to be ill advised as you can miss a lot due to the dual direction bug.

Besides, the only dualies ever worth taking are the .44s, simply because of that amazing animation and incredibly fast Scrake disposal.

I prefer flinch locking. M14 flinch lock is always fun and pretty safe, but the .44 one means that you can only miss once, else you will be stuck with that lengthy reload while the Scrake saws you in half.

Personally I have gone right off the Xbow. I just find it boring to use on perk, especially in its current state. I like using the LAR occasionally, but I find that in a game where I can trust my team mates, I enjoy mucking around with off perk weapons + something that I can flinch lock with (normally with an M14 + something, but I have been trying .44, Mac 10 and Trenchgun as of late).

Why flinchlock when you can utterly decimate a target? Why risk it when you can play it safe?

Because there's the notion going around that using "creative" weapons (ie: they're OFFPERK, MAN, NEVER SEEN BEFORE!) necessarily means you're one of the hotshot cool kids.

Or something about pretending that it's totally not that at all but actually just fun, I don't really know. Probably that.
