M1 Carbine with M4 bayonet

Some background info on M1

Unlike modern carbines based on shortened version of assault rifles (M4 from M16, ASK-74U from ASK-74, and of course our trusty L22 from the L85) M1 carbine is completely unrelated to the M1 Garand. It was purpose designed as a smaller defense weapon for second line troops and specialist frontline troops (you know, like commandos and paratroopers) who needed a gun smaller and lighter than a standard battle rifle but with more firepower than pistols or submachine guns.

Now before anyone says semi-automatic rifles = sharpshooter, have a look at this picture:

On the left is .30 carbine rounds specially developed for the M1. Centre is 7.62x39mm of AK-47, and right is 5.56 NATO used in the bullpup. As you can see, .30 carbine is in no way an assault rifle round, it’s actually more of a supersized pistol round with its straight wall and round nose bullet. Without a spitzer (ie, pointed) bullet, the M1 carbine is only good for about 270m. Which is fine as personal defense for rear troops and spec-op missions tend to happen at fairly close range anyway.

Due to its versatility, easy of handling, relative low cost and easily available ammo, it’s recommended by The Zombie Survival Guide as one of the two weapons most suited for a zombie outbreak situation. (The other is the machete)

Seems like a nice idea. Quite reasonably balanced weapon. Taking off those nasty crawlers with 2-3 shots at distance and stabbing the rest with bayonet (ohh, it takes me back to Necrovision). Would be even more useful than 9MM at taking headshots.

I'm not too keen with idea of linking this gun to commando class, though.
Price should be max 400 in my opinion.
Also, I think it should be tier 1 weapon, so that it would spawn on maps as pickup.

The other idea that would have similar function to this gun is allowing players to wield 9MM and machete at the same time.

i also love this idea. i play zerker alot and this would be very usefull for crawlers, plus with the bayonette it gives a welcome twist on a new zerker weapon.

but this gun should not be very powerful, id say somewhere between the 9mm and the handcannon.

granted im a bit bais but, i think this should be just a zerker weapon. i can hear the screams already saying "if u want to use a gun be a diff class!!!!!" but with its weak dmg and its bayonette, it seems like an interesting weapon idea for the zerk.

A lee enfield would be more interesting for me then

I did think about bolt action rifles, particularly Lee Enfield. But then it would end up as berserker-sharpshooter weapon, and we don't want to give sharpshooters MOAR guns do we?

id say somewhere between the 9mm and the handcannon
It is already between 9mm and handcannon in damage as suggested.

I still don't see why this weapon needs to exist since it would only make the berserker less melee oriented but I suppose it bridges the gap between carrying LAR or AK and katana. But except for the off case where you are needing to switch real quick because of a spec in your face, you have a decent amount of time to switch roles. Besides it is just a weapon that does two things alright rather than two weapon that each to their own thing well.

That said it would still be an interesting weapon to try out but I'd rather see other things (particularly firebug weapons) addressed way before this.

the type of gun could rly be almost any as long as it would be useful for dispatching crawlers. there has been several times wen ive been swarmed (as a zerker) by a group of clots, gorefasts, crawlers and husk fire when switching my weapon means certain damage. a weapon with a bayonette would be very useful here.

also i think that rifle/chainsaw weapon is standard issue in todays armed forces. lol
