I believe the closest RTS I've seen would be Rise of Nations. It's an oldie, but I guess it won't matter if you enjoy AoE... If you never played "Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds", it's a very well mod of the first AoE game !

Otherwise, some great classics that you're probably heard about but are must plays : dawn of war, starcraft/warcraft, stronghold, cossacks (not the last one tho), empire earth, command and conquer.

They cover multiple eras (even the future!), and are sometimes even more battle-focused... And sometimes more about building your economy and city.

Age of Mythology I liked a lot, Rise of Nations is similar but not so much fun.
