I have been playing RO since the mod days and I'm not satisfied. I have one single gripe with this game: Player movement is way too fast! Movement speed is about 50% too fast. Players can sprint pretty much all the time without any sort of penalty. In close quarter battles, all you see is soldiers flashing by. The pretty much turned into a battle of reflexes. This kills any sort of realism that this game otherwise would have had.

I don't care about any of the other problems, bugs and crashes this game has, but the stupidly frantic pace really kills it for me. You just don't need to play with any tactic, like covering fire or flanking or anything, you just throw your smoke and rush the capzone. Even Counter Strike pace is slower and you have a much better feel for where the front line is. Here it's just running and gunning.

Bottom line is, if I wanted to play an arcade shooter, I'd go and play CoD or Battlefield or something like that. I will probably play it for a little while, but ultimately go back to Darkest Hour. I'm really disappointed...

Wrong, wrong wrong wrong and also wrong.
Speaking for myself and likeminded fans of realism here:

We wanted improved and smoother controls.

Adjustable sights, and the abillity to use the ironsights on the snipers? You'd best belive we where stoked for that!

A realisticly implimeted cover system? Yup, that could come in handy! I didn't think it would replace my use of normal crouching and leaning, but i did think it would add another tactical choice for us.

Improved bipod system that isen't as clunky, swivels around the actual bipod and lets us duck into cover when reloading, you best belive we where all for that!

Improved 3D scopes? Do want!

An end to silly ping-pong tanking and promises of a far more detailed and realistic tanking experiance? Ohh yes, we wanted that!

promises of fast PC's nolonger having first choice of classes, yup, we wanted that.

Promises of n00bs nolonger beeing able to screw over the team by taking the vital specialised roles untill they had more experiance with the game? Did want!

New game-types to play? Sounds good!

And i could keep going for a while, we where not looking for a graphical facelift only, hell no, we wanted to see improved mechanics, we wanted the innovation, we wanted to see Ro2 become something more and better than Ro:Ost was.

What we did not want is seeing Assault-rifles dominating the battlefield, we did not want quickscoping and instant ironsights, we did not want to see aiming skill becoming a non-factor of the game, we did not want to see the gameplay speed boosted 100% to fast run'n'gun arcade style twitch-shooter play, we did not want to see the bolt-action rifle become a rare sight amongst a flood of automatic weaponry, we did not want to see bloody prototypes and silencers becomming the norm (infact most of us didn't want to see them at all), and certainly did not want perks and other such gimmicks added as a positive-feedback loop and serving as a deterrant for entry.

I wanted a better and more polished RO, one with much improved mechanics and more choice, i did not want a reskinned High-Def RO, i wanted RO+.

What i got, however, looks like an eastern-front mod for MoH:AA, it doesen't even feel like it's the same game or even genre to me, and it has utterly lost what drew me to RO in the first place.

I completely agree..

I'm happy with the game,I somehow know after all bugs are ironed out, performance is better optimisied, TWI will go back to its roots and make the game more realistic by restoring depth of gameplay and bringing order in it,which it means 85% bolt rifle class and the rest should be auto,semi's.....

Stop being delusional, once someone smells the success of money, it never goes away.

Very satisfied, all these RO1 people keep *****ing about realism when RO1 actually wasn't too realistic in my opinion... RO2 actually feels like you're a real soldier, with a real weapon and it's very fluid as opposed to Ostfront(which I still love but...) you felt wooden and mechanical, almost like a lumbering bafoon who didn't know how to use his weapon.

I think what we may have here is a big case of armchair generals who don't run around AT ALL in real life, or fire weapons in real life, telling us what is realistic when they're not being realistic.

Relaxed realism I'm not a fan of but, all the realism servers I'm in I love so far.

I disagree with you 100%,RO2 is a step DOWN from Red Orchestra Ostfront.
This so-called "wooden" or "mechanical" feeling you're blabbering about is the games slower running and aiming down the sight. Those mechanics were put in there to prevent Red Orchestra from becoming a twitch shooter! Now in Red Orchestra 2,players can run and gun just like they could in battlefield 3 and call of duty! (You can still run after getting shot in the leg and you can instantly aim down you sight with no weapon sway)

Every good feature Red Orchestra 1 had is GONE!
Call Of Red Orchestra - YouTube

The game's autoreloading (when your clip is emptied) rewards failing to check your ammo. The lack of sway is making picking off machine gunners too easy.

What good is the free-aim system if you can instantly aim down the sight?
(It took 3 seconds to aim down the sight in Ostfront, even longer if you were sprinting, plus having low stamina added extra sway.)

Everything was done right in Red Orchestra Ostfront.

I am a little unhappy with it, I love the game, just don't love the performance as of yet. When playing the beta I thought, this is pretty smooth, sure the full game with be better, but every patch makes performance worse, I am sure it will be sorted in a few months, I just think that in a few months I will have other games to play.

I think part of the problem is how easy it is to start firing with iron sights in the middle of sprinting. You can be sprinting and as soon as you press rmb you can start shooting centre of the screen, then you can have your iron sights to aim with. Rather than just slowing everything down maybe they could add some difficulty elements here, like the gun moves around and the bullets follow where the gun is pointing until you manage to align the front and back sight with good players able to do it faster. They can also make you have some momentum rather than stopping instantly. It just feels wrong to me how easy it is to go to perfectly aligned iron sights without sway or recoil or something
