hard to say. im enjoying it so far but on the other hand i'm finding something needs to be reworked. like features which seem broken. i like how depending on the wheather on a map contributes to how quickly an mg barrel heats up but the thing is, i've never had my mg heat up at all.

the critical spots on tanks dont even seem to work. i've aimed for the treads and engine not only with the anti tank rifle to immobalise it but also with a tank and it didnt do anything. tank maps arent big enough for zeroing to be of any use. hit boxes need fixing.

but apart from the things that dont work i am enjoying the game for the fact that its not quite a sim but not quite a game either. also i find that im only playing 4 maps online, either they're really good or the other ones are really crap in comparison.

Disappointed but optimistic. I trust TWI to iron out the bugs and make a game that will appeal to all of us. It may take a while but I am happy to keep playing in the meantime and wait and see what happens.

There are two points of view for the game. The first is all the old RO1 players who simply wanted RO1 with better graphics and sounds. The second are the more casual/mainstream players who want something more ardade and simple to pick up and play. This could have been easily done by making relaxed realism exactly that, with the unlocks and leveling up etc and keeping hardcore realism similar to RO1.....job done. We are all happy and the devs can get on with bug fixes and adding extra features.

But in the real world nothing is simple and when a bunch of mod makers turn into a business then priorities change i suppose.

A gross over-simplification, in my opinion. Yes, there are both of those schools of thought. There's also the RO1 vet who wants the game to evolve rather than playing Red Orchestra: Reskin. There's the player new to the franchise who appreciates the smoothed out learning curve while still being challenged by the unforgiving game play. There's more, but I have to head to work in a couple minutes.

Having played RO1, the learning curve is essentially the same. In fact, it's probably steeper in some respects in RO2 because there is actually more mechanical stuff to learn. The campaign is a better introduction to, well, everything than what RO1 provided. But few people seem to actually try it before jumping in.

The real divide as I see is between those who really did just want a graphically updated RO1 with a few new features, and most other people who were willing to try whatever TWI was offering up as the successor to RO.

What you say is true, but you're neglecting the third group: people who are frustrated with a game in which so much is either very poorly implemented or simply doesn't work, terrible system optimisation (it's fine for me, but I know a great many people who aren't so lucky in this regard), missing promised features, disappointing tank combat (assuming this doesn't improve significantly I think the whole 'three months to design a tank' issue is a lost cause), frankly stupid key binding decisions which can not be amended (which you may think is a minor issue, but for me represents the small but clumsy design decisions which are both frustrating and unnecessary) and the lowest life expectancy I've ever seen on a video game.

Combine this with superb maps (it seems there are disagreements over spawn points and so on, but I speak of actual map design and layout), fluid gameplay, great feeling weaponry and - when people aren't ****ing around and being Rambo - truly immersing squad-based combat and you have a game which is just... my overused word of the week: frustrating.

There is so much to love about RO2 but it feels rushed, botched and generally ill-prepared for a general release this year. I have no regrets about buying the game and I've enjoyed many of the decent team games I've played, but such major (to me) issues as actually avoiding/ignoring tank combat because I find it tedious and suicidal, not having any sort of practice mode (to specify: similar to RO1, an offline mode where I can select a map, game type, number of bots and bot difficulty level and ideally the option to set which point/team they attack and how), obscure 'one step backward' decision decisions like infinite sprinting, no weapon sway, bandaging (what?) and the ping equivalent of the Marathon of the Sands (Punkbuster) just piss me off; it's a snowball effect, and after a few rounds I'll just quit and do something else for a while.

Stop putting bull**** into our mouths about this "we only wanted RO with better graphics", this is what Grobut said and many others agree with:

We wanted improved and smoother controls.

Adjustable sights, and the abillity to use the ironsights on the snipers? You'd best belive we where stoked for that!

A realisticly implimeted cover system? Yup, that could come in handy! I didn't think it would replace my use of normal crouching and leaning, but i did think it would add another tactical choice for us.

Improved bipod system that isen't as clunky, swivels around the actual bipod and lets us duck into cover when reloading, you best belive we where all for that!

Improved 3D scopes? Do want!

An end to silly ping-pong tanking and promises of a far more detailed and realistic tanking experiance? Ohh yes, we wanted that!

promises of fast PC's nolonger having first choice of classes, yup, we wanted that.

Promises of n00bs nolonger beeing able to screw over the team by taking the vital specialised roles untill they had more experiance with the game? Did want!

New game-types to play? Sounds good!

And i could keep going for a while, we where not looking for a graphical facelift only, hell no, we wanted to see improved mechanics, we wanted the innovation, we wanted to see Ro2 become something more and better than Ro:Ost was.

What we did not want is seeing Assault-rifles dominating the battlefield, we did not want quickscoping and instant ironsights, we did not want to see aiming skill becoming a non-factor of the game, we did not want to see the gameplay speed boosted 100% to fast run'n'gun arcade style twitch-shooter play, we did not want to see the bolt-action rifle become a rare sight amongst a flood of automatic weaponry, we did not want to see bloody prototypes and silencers becomming the norm (infact most of us didn't want to see them at all), and certainly did not want perks and other such gimmicks added as a positive-feedback loop and serving as a deterrant for entry.

I wanted a better and more polished RO, one with much improved mechanics and more choice, i did not want a reskinned High-Def RO, i wanted RO+.

Nice attitude. This type of reply is pretty much the reason why I dont post on forums very much. Ok, I could have elaborated but as I wrote the post during my lunch break I kept it short and to the point. I agree totally with the post you copied in yours btw. Extra features would be fantastic. I am just saying that as it is, RO2 has left the core values of the game we loved in RO1.

I am also beta testing Natural Selection 2 and the same arguments go on about that game on their forum. Some want the same game as Natural Selection 1 and others want and love the changes they have made. I was a huge fan of the first game but love the way NS2 is progressing and it will end up in my opinion a better game because of the changes. I would like to say the same about RO2 and the changes TWI have made but atm I cant.

Just my opinion and I think am entitled to it, hopefully without flamage :)

I am not dissatisfied because of the bugs and errors or even the crashes.

It is a brand new game and anyone who does not expect this must have never played a brand new game or has amnesia!

Sure I hate finishing one match per night due to crashes, but I assume that will get worked out as time goes buy.

I voted "dissatisfied" because of the arcade mode called "hardcore"

where there is zero sway when standing and aiming through iron sights

where there is little or no different in accuracy aiming from standing, kneeling or prone,

where you are knocked out of combat for jumping from the second story through a ladder hole, but not when you are shot through the legs with a submachine gun so long as you hit a 1 second bandage,

where you can shoot through walls but you cannot crawl through random cans of food on a kitchen floor,

where you cannot detatch your bayonet

where you run through people but then get caught on every door frame or stick of furniture

where you cannot go to prone without taking two steps back, when a human would instinctual and instantly move back enough to go prone when their brain told their body to go prone

where you kill instantly with every bayonet thrust, but not every pistol shot from the same distance

where RO1 was more immersive and realistic in too many ways, even if RO2 added some great things like cover hugging and breath control

No, in its current state I'm not satisfied. I'm having CTD's, loss of sound, stats not working properly, server browser still failing on me ect, and just lots of 'TWI-facepalm moments' though-out gameplay.
+1, I was expecting to play this game A LOT! But no.. I have so much and so different problems that I dont even want to start it because its breaking my fun. My main concern right now is that by the time when the game is fixed and such it will be pretty much dead with a little to none servers in the browser. And then I will be pissed for my money that I spent on a born dead game.
