3D & Animation [3DS Max] Import 3D Mesh Editor Crashes

My apologies if this does not belong here

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Anytime I try to import a 3D mesh (.fbx) the editor crashes. I have tried each fbx format (years) to see what happened but still came up short. Any ideas / fixes?

You have to have a 64bit OS and a minimum of 8 GB of physical RAM to play with the SDK. Posting your system specs would be a good start to help understand the issue.

Since your running Win7x64, disable Areo. It is known to crash the editor.

A few other suggestions (I'm guessing you're using 3dsMAX):

If there are any textures, make sure you import them seperately, uncheck "include materials" when creating the FBX.

Also, check that your mesh is a polygon model (editable mesh in MAX). Editable polys (faces with more than 3 edges) will crash import.

If these don't work, make a simple untextured cube and try importing that. No matter what, you will still need UV mapping even if there are no materials applied.

For MAX, the modifier stack will also need to be collapsed before export.

G'Luck
