Yeah I can't pull myself away from the all-rounder type ships. How'd you get the clipper? Chummy with the Imp.Navy? Or are there other means? The ASP is a bit expensive for what I gather it is - but can still do a fair few jobs with adequate weaponry, cargo capacity and jump range.

Not sure how the aesthetics of the cast matters very much...not like the original line up was full of lookers. Been sick of reboots and re-makes for what's sure to be almost a decade now. The novelty of the all-female cast might hold up for some people, but you know...meh.

Been playing since release, didn't take too long to get myself a Cobra - though it did take a while to gear it up decently (19ly jump range, 40 cargo capacity, decent weapons). Think I might save up for an ASP!

With Save/Load (beyond level loads or checkpoints), that was entirely down to the player. You could choose whether to save often, or choose not to.

My brother is very much a current-gen gamer, and I finally got him to play System Shock 2, which also features a "respawn" element (Quantum Bio-reconstruction Devices). Anyway, the game is difficult - apparently - because you aren't being spoon fed the experience in the way that is most common...

1946 came out 4 years after IL2:FB originally shipped and is really 2 games and 2 expansion packs. So whilst it is excellent it has been thoroughly enriched over time, I wouldn't go using it as a benchmark against one release of another sim.
