Views on Classes using other Class weapons?

Just wondering what people think when for example... a Support Specialist runs with a Shotgun + Bullpup.

I was on one server in Hard Mode with my Lv. 2 SS (only had this awesome game for 3 weeks, played maybe total of 12 hours) who was equiped with a Double-Barrel Shotgun and also has a Bullpup. We had no other Commando so I was using the Bullpup to attack from range and take out Stalkers to passively add-up my Commando Perk. Then out of the blue some Lv. 6 Medic tells me "you ****** your support, use your shotgun". Let's just say when an unexpected FP came around and his buddy got ripped apart - I hid around the corner and let him get ripped apart too then I opened both barrels on it when he softened it up before his death.

I always used Bullpup at range and switched to shotgun when close - it just really annoyed me when someone with a Lv.6 Perk thinks they know how to play the game better or am I the wrong one here and should stick with shotguns only?

Using an off-perk weapon to expand your versatility is a great way to round out a team. But you need to use good judgment to determine when it will work.

One of the main benefits of carrying two shotguns with support is that your perk bonuses are doing double duty because you have more ammo to shoot with bonuses. In later difficulties, this is critically important because of the significantly increased health, speed, and numbers of enemies.

Carrying an off-perk weapon can work and be beneficial to the team if your group finds itself lacking in a particular function, like crowd control or dropping big specimens, but you have to weigh the costs carefully or you'll be trapped against too many specimens with too little damage/ammo to kill them all.

I can't say I'm too fond of perks using weapons outside of their role, but there are situations when it could be beneficial.

I probably don't like the idea of it because most of the time when this happens it's someone using a flamethrower outside of the Firebug perk, and it just so happens the person is also horrible with it and either kills themself or warrants too much attention from the medic for what little he's doing for the team.

In your situation there, for one I feel the Medic was a prick. But on the other hand, I do have to ask you, how far away were you from the action? I'd understand if you guys were camping out somewhere and it would pose a risk to venture out from the camp, but Support Specialist should generally be up close. Again, I don't know the full situation at all so this is just going by a basic understanding of the picture I've painted in my head.

Also, popping out a bullpup/AK-47/SCAR to take out stalkers to raise your commando perk is perfectly fine. I'd actually say you were being quite beneficial to the team with the "multitasking."

So long as you are focusing on using the weapon your perk boosts primarily and to it's fullest extent (ie as support, using the pump to sweep/crowd control) there is nothing wrong with using a weapon outside of your perk in order to get an ability you would not otherwise have. (ie using an assault rifle to get better range, etc)

However, instead of a support and a commando, each alternating between bullpup and shotgun for long and close range, it might be better to have one focused all on close range and shotguns (ie the support) and one focused all on longer range and assault rifles. (ie the commando)

How to choose between the first scenario and second depends on how well your team coordinates and communicates. In the end, the second one will usually be preferrable.

On the other hand, be a firebug. Then noone can say anything about you using a flamethrower and m79. (They'll just whine at you for being a firebug in the first place)

As long as the weapon isn't CRIPPLINGLY heavy (Flamethrower, Crossbow, Chainsaw), there's usually no problem with an off-class carrying it. And even then, there are exceptions, as I'll say below. That said, it's hard for anyone to justify having the Flamethrower without being Firebug.

Medics HAVE to use another class weapon. The MP7 is an absolute joke in real combat. Crossbow is excellent, as would be the Chainsaw if it didn't suck.

Support have so much space that they can easily carry other weapons, so people need to mind their own business. As long as the Support has a shotgun, he's fine. Using a Bullpup or other weapon to clean trash is fine and even a GOOD IDEA if using the AA-12 or Hunting Shotgun...

That said, if you don't have AT LEAST one of your class' weapons, you NEED to either switch perks or get one. If, for example, you were a Supporter with a Bullpup, Crossbow, and M79, I'd probably be yelling at you and insisting you switch classes too...

I have the curious urge now to break out my R6 Support for the sole purpose of playing games with the absolute highest number of weapons possible. What's the optimal loadout for most weapons, guys?

Yeah, Crossbow is a fine addition to the MP7M. MP7M for the low stuff if i get some and Crossbow for Scrakes, FP and Patty, maybe Siren, but these are mainly our M14 Sharpshooter fodder.

I only use the revolver nader as a commando because of the godly reload speed.
Oh and something to get rid of those DAMN BUGS when playing berserker.
Demo, firebug and medic need backup weapons to cover up their weaknesses.

Support and SS are more than good with their class weapons as they can get out of all situations with those.
If you wanna kill ranged weaklings as a support, how about the 9mm?

Using other class weapons isn't a problem at all, at least in my view. To be honest, I rarely notice what other weapons the players are using. Point is, if they survive and help the team, they can use whatever secondary weapon they want.

Whether it is a sharpshooter with an AK47, a commando using an xbow, or even a support carrying handcanons.

As long as the team survives and monsters hit the floor, I'm not telling you how to play the game.

As for me, being a medic, having a crossbow really puts variety with medic gun, which is always good. ^^
