It's so sad how the youth of today show a complete lack of commercialism. They leave school with a piece of paper that say's they have an education but they end up not knowing their ar%e from their elbow. They enter this amazing make believe World where all is free and commercial is evil. They dont stand a chance in the real World. Has anyone told them yet when they grow up they have to pay their own rent?

I've noticed on my server that the ad doesn't even load...I played at least 6 or 7 games today and I only saw one ad and it was for Red Orchestra.

Don't see why people are complaining about the ads. They aren't intrusive/annoying and they don't delay the time it takes to play the game. I actually don't mind watching them while I'm waiting for people to join/choose their perk.

Plus, it supports future updates. Who doesn't want more free updates?:D

I made a similar post in a similar thread on the steam forums.

Personally, I'm okay with this particular instance of in-game advertising. It only appears in the lobby and it is about as unobtrusive as advertising can be.

However, my biggest fear is that a non-trivial number of new players from this free weekend (or anytime in the future really) will see this and be immediately turned off from buying KF. Or worse, this news will spread across the internet and people won't even bother to check out KF because they read on some other website or heard from a friend that KF has in-game advertising and they'll imagine it's much worse than it really is.

Also, and I know that I'm not exactly entitled to this and it wouldn't really have made any difference, but you couldn't have at least mentioned this before release? Maybe with some screen shots or a video to demonstrate exactly how the advertising would be accomplished. Or was that covered somewhere and I didn't get the memo?

Oh, by the way, outstanding update. You guys have really outdone yourselves and especially if free updates continue you've earned yourselves at least one loyal customer. I've bought one copy already along the the outbreak dlc in august and I'm definitely going to buy the nightfall pack this weekend. My brothers birthday is really soon, maybe I'll buy a copy for him as well.

What's funny too is that, anyone who uses Facebook, or visits sites like CNN.com, Amazon, Newegg, Hotmail...these sites are already collecting this information and making use of the exact same kinds of ads. So you're already releasing this info on a daily basis to pay for other people's websites and businesses.

And you're sour because now you're actually getting something back out of the deal? It's a better arrangement than you usually get with Internet marketing.

While I think you're right in part -- some people might be turned away from the game -- I don't think it would result in a negative word-of-mouth kind of thing. In-game ads don't really strike me as classy...at all...but at least TWI made their's as tasteful and reserved as possible.

it's pretty simple.....the only people that will probably complain about it are:

A. some longtime KF players that don't want to see TW put any emphasis on anything other than KF.... for me, i LOVE KF, but i still love RO more.....ROHOS is the original "game2" so deal with it.

B. the people new to TW that have no clue that RO is the game that put TW on the map...TW isn't gonna start advertising for CSS or L4D or anything, it will only be TW stuff ;)

c. and finally, people who don't know what TW is all about or just those with no common sense.

If people are so annoyed at the very obtrusive ads, i don't know how they can even used the internet considering all the rediculous ads like the one omar posted :D

@ TW, i want to see some ROHOS ads in there by christmas!!!!!:D

edit: btw saw that "other" thread about the ads.....thanks for closing it!!!! definitely not needed

LOL. Never seen one. Ad-Blockers FTW! There's just something that makes me happy to be subverting advertising giants work with a simple program... And you'd be surprised how much better Facebook looks without ads plastered all over it...

I had no problem with the ads, they're cool and they are correct, TWI earned it. I've been playing RO since it was a mod and I hope it'll bring even more mature players who fit the game.

I'd even go to extent and say that they should have also mentioned Darkest Hour, yeah, I know it's somewhat of a competitor to vanilla RO, but it's cool to know you can play a kickass reaistic FPS ww2 online shooter either in the east or the west front/

I think of all the alternative ways they could have done in game advertising this was the most subtle and least damaging to game immersion. I mean, it's not really in game. It's in the lobby where your sitting and waiting to actually play the game. They've could have just plastered billboards all over the maps like West London instead. Where you could have been bombarded with countless ads for Borderlands. Plus, if anything, this is a huge plus for all players since they would have undoubtedly had to charge for the latest, or future, updates and jack up the pricing on the already ridiculously low priced DLC. I believe TW made an excellent decision.

TWI, i think its safe to say that we all, as a community of KF players, want to see hot chicks showing their goods during these advertisements. if you can make this very tasty you will be making me very happy because this is what KF is missing.

i prefer eastern european women, just in case.

What, the naked women already in KF don't appeal to you?:p

to find a good, non-obtrusive way to insert non-annoying advertising into the game.

Video adverts with sound are non-obtrusive? I guess it could be worse, it could pop up and get in the way of the perk buttons you're trying to click, but "could be worse" isn't "good".

There is less choice about the in-game advertising

Less? Not zero? So circumventing the ads is not a bannable offense? Or will you consider a City of Heroes type ad model, where players can choose to enable or disable ads, knowing that if they enable the ads the company gets more money?

You believe this? If the ads were going to remain Tripwire related, they wouldn't be hooking up with a notorious 3rd party advertising company. How long before the ads are like all the other Massive ads and we're seeing Fanta commercials before we can play? Sure, you might like RO getting more attention, but will you feel the same way about sneakers or punch the monkey or whatever? I'm sure Tripwire/Massive wants to assure us they will monitor the content, just like AO and Planetside. Because things turned out so well over there...

Yeah, it's going to scare off some newbies. It's never a good sign when a paid program switches to an advertising supported model. Instead of "Hey guys, check out this great game, and it's cheap!" it's "Hey guys, check out this game, there's paid DLC packs and in-game advertising, but other than that it's cheap!"

Fine. Lets bin the ads to save the emo. Everyone hand over $50 to keep KF content coming for another 18 months.

What's that? You mean you don't want to pay. So I guess that's the end of new KF content then. Well done. You've achieved what you didn't set out to...the death of KF.

If you are going to mock us, at least be fair about it. Your mocking should be more like this:

"Hey guys, check out this great game. Its cheap, they give away TONS of free DLC that cost their company hundreds of thousands of dollars to make, and there are also cheap paid DLC character packs and in-game advertising"

Keep in mind, it costs a lot of money to make the big content packs we are giving away for free. That money has to come from somewhere. We would rather have videos, and keep giving away free updates.

Also, every video that goes into KF will be personally authorized by either myself or WilsonAM. And the non-TWI videos will be short movie trailers. And we'll make sure it doesn't get deeply silly.
