Level Design l4d textures to kf

hey guys
long time ago i made custom WALL, FLOOR, CEILING textures for l4d to make it scarier but never released it
i edited the official wall textures but is it possible just to take it over to kf? or isnt it allowed bcoz of the copy right orso?

If they are created from scratch by you, then you can use them in whatever way you want. But if you just edited the l4d textures, then you won't be allowed to use them in kf.

It's technically not allowed. To give a comparison to something in real life. If i'd take a song from anyone and just added a millisecond beep to it and released it (it would technically be different), it'd still be considered stealing that song seeing i wasn't copyright holder off the original.

Same can be said about commercials, like billboards you see in the streets. Taking the name out of the original company and placing your own company it's name on it is not allowed.

Now i'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but legally it's not allowed to alter copyrighted material and release it for free in another game.

Yeah, nobody's going to sue you for doing it, but for instance that would render you unable to win a certain competition.

is it okay then to edit KF WALL textures for the use of KF maps??

Yup, totally fine. You just add your touch to usable content, so it's like what you do when you create a level using the game's static mesh. You can also find free of use textures online if you need new stuff.

ok but i tried to import my texture but its not working its not showing up in my texture browser
theres is no space between the directory and such ...

I save them as .dds with the Nvidia plug-ins for photoshop and it works fine. In what format do you intent to import them in UnrealEd? Also, when you do import them, make sure you type "MyLevel" in the package field, so it doesn't interfere with the original packages.

i tried dds and bmp and i also did mylevel but still it gives me nothing

oh w8 the problem was that the textures wasnt 8 bit
but 8 bit completely ruins the texture
anything to do about it/

There is no other way then 8bit.. And have you tried save/importing as *.BMP? Then compress texture in UED as DXT1..
