Now it's actually easier to win maps if everyone splits up and each player has around 5-6 specimens following him because only 32 are spawned at one time. That way getting surrounded by specimens is nearly impossible because the maps are rather big. The number of specimens spawned at once should be atleast 64 to address this problem.

In the ini file you find "MaxZombiesOnce=32"
If you or your friends run your own server then simply change that to a higher number if you want a bigger challenge. Or try playing on suicide
5-6 specimens chasing you will be scary enough then. especially if they are crawlers, gorefasts or fleshpounds ^^

IMHO the default amount should be increased on all servers. Yesterday I played couple a hours on Normal servers and every server had 5 guys running around alone only grouping up for Boss. Even in cramped maps like Offices and Biotics Lab it's easier to run around alone to divide the specimens in small groups than to group up and try to hold some corridor or staircase together.
