If it was a previous version of Norton Internet Security I could probably help you out. I guess it's a good thing that I didn't upgrade past NIS 2006, considering how much that can be a pain even.

What I suggest is going to the firewall settings and also adding Steam (and various other Steam apps) to the list. For some reason in order to get RO working for me originally it took about 3 different times of adding Steam and Red Orchestra to the firewall permit list before I could start playing.

Why you ask? We will never be able to say for certain, but this is what happens when you have to deal with Norton.

Does RO work when you turn off/disable your Norton and try to run it? Turn off firewalls, everything and try.

If it works with Norton completel disabled, then you know for sure it is Norton blocking it. You'll have to dig into the Norton settings and try to add Steam as a trusted program so it won't stop network tranfer to or from. Maybe add RO to that as well?

I don't use Norton anymore for these same reasons, it's always a pain in the *** to get some things to work. Get one of the free anti-virus or something like Kaspersky, which is not all that pricey and is better than Norton.

This is my personal, un-official answer: Ditch Norton. Get a free anti-virus. You'll thank me later.

Agreed.

Software firewalls are totally useless pieces of bloatware that do almost nothing to protect you anyways. If your behind any current $39 router with a hardware firewall, its all but impossible for you to get attacked, unless you start playing with ports.

Well I have tried disabling everything and starting and it still wont work I have had it ask me to permit all apps and theyare on all allow. RO only quit after installing Norton so that is why I think itis the culprit. I am going to uninstall Norton now and see how that works. I have removed and readded RO and Steam.

I agree I just like the extra layer of software firewalls. I go to some shady parts of the internet so any bit helps in my opinion.

what does the steam:\\validate\1200 supposed to do ? I go there an only get a white browser screen what is it supposed to do?

If it's just giving a white screen, that's odd. But if it brings up a box that shows it's validating your RO cache, that's good.

Another way to do that is to right click on RO in your game browser > Properties > "Local Files" > Verify integrity of cache
