Steam community beta

So as some may remember a few months back steam announced it was going to be releasing a host of community features.

Well you can now simply beta test these features.

In steam click file-->settings-->beta participation--> steam communtiy.

Steam will restart and download a small patch (a few mb's) and then you can see all the new features.

It is only beta so some stuff doesnt work but if you get in now you can baggsy your name etc.

it is also possible to add all your game (or application) shortcuts to the steam games list. This would allow a nice way to clean up your desktop or simply keep all your games in one tidy place. It is no different than having a shortcut on the desktop but does mean i can now have all my games listed in one go when i cant decide what to play

I can't join the group. For some reason everytime I click join it just loads for half a second and then goes back to the same page.

And the beta doesn't like Vista but it works anyways.

Ok me joined I didn't change my original name so its Boneboys, since 04 !

As for the avatars : less than 150k and png or jpeg format only.

There was another Steam update (2 in 24hrs) was that for this beta ?
They say it crashes with certain games...

Another thing I noticed when I first joined the beta last night was that DoDS updated, not CSS nor RO !

i think any steam updates atm are due to the beta (they list on their news page anything official)

That happened to me also, after about the 3rd attempt the join button lit up and I was able to join.

I think its just a matter of being patient, tis a beta !
