STALKER Mega-Thread; Clear Skies are Coming!

I got this realistic gun mod for the game. I ambushed a military patrol at the very entrance to the zone with a Makarov. All three were K.I.A. with only three pistol rounds fired. So, I had an AK74su for the first mission against bandits. =D

With that mod, the real-world gun names, and real world gun textures mod, the game is so much cooler. It's also incredibly unforgiving and yet so much more rewarding. Just keep in mind that while you can do cool stuff early on, you'll also get raped in the Red Forest and Pripyat unless you're smart about cover and keep a real good eye out. The Pripyat level reminded me of the ending scenes in Children of Men with this mod. Crazy stuff going on. But my trusty G36 and Colt M1911 got me through without dying too much.

Best part was running through Pripyat after meeting up with the elite stalkers. Running down the road then suddenly, "Sniper on the roof!" Five gunshots and three of the stalkers are dead, including the leader, before a stalker shot him. Then he in turn got nailed by another guy inside a window. After a while it was just me and one last stalker. We cleared out a building. The fire fight was intense. Bastards fought tooth and nail. Then we are walking out the back of the building. The stalker starts to run and I heard a thudding sound then a whoosh. I'm thinking "huh" and start looking around. Then the stalker explodes and I realize there are two guys on a roof with RPGs. Killed one of them with three rounds through his throat and lower skull. Unfortunately there was a jerk with a Gauss rifle who picked me off from behind the concrete wall I jumped behind.

Patch 1.0003 is out now, not sure how good it is performance wise but then again I never had any crashes etc while playing with patch 1.0001, but it looks like it fixes a few bugs.

dl http://www.stalker-zone.com/

changes:

* Added some textures of certain objects (for technical purposes).
* Added console command 'sv_listmaps' to view the list of maps queue.
* Added the support for additional mouse buttons (now they can be bound to certain actions).
* Fixed bugs with player's character health bar in Multi-player.
* Fixed the crash upon making the screenshot to a saved game.
* Fixed the bug with standing dead bodies upon connecting to the game.
* Fixed inventory items placing system (Free for all and Team play modes).
* Fixed the enumeration of the game's version.
* Fixed the crash with using Numpad in some localizations.
* Fixed the crash on the level "Military warehouse".
* Fixed the crash while idling on the pause menu
* Fixed the crash in dialog with Professor Sakharov on the Yantar level.
* Fixed the storyline task "Meet with the Guide", now you can get it by searching Ghost's corpse.

* Fixed the A-life reaction time. Now A-life spawns new NPCs more seldom. Also NPC movement speed is decreased when NPC are on different level then the player.
* Binary files are now compiled with large address aware flag that supports up to 3GB address space (relevant for Windows VistaT users).
* Added the possibility to record/play the camera fly-around ('demo_record'/'demo_play' commands). Now Stalker is ready for benchmarks.
* Fixed aspect ratio 16/9. Now the owners of the widescreen displays will have the benefit from greater viewing radius.
* Fixed various crashes with dedicated server.
* The network packets have been merged. This will make the ping reduce twice or more.
* The correctness of map name is now verified when changing the map using the console.
* Fixed the dragging of dead bodies by monsters.
* Now dumps will be saved upon the game crashes.
* Fixed the in-game patching system for all localizations.
* Fixed the problem with the exceedingly long players' names.
* Fixed textual problems for 16/9 video format.
* Fixed game freezing upon trying to connect to a different version.
* Fixed binocular Spectator crash.
* Fixed non-existent grenade launcher firing.
* Fixed players turning invisible when reduced to a minimal amount of health.

Mods I use:
G36 crosshair: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/G36_Crosshair;78742
Real Gun Names: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/STALKER_Real_Gun_Names_Mod_English;77804
Realism Mod: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Realism_Mod;77806

I'm currently looking into mods for extending the flashlight range and to replace the weapon sounds.

Edit: Forgot this little gem: http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Prefetch_Tweak_Mod;77359 Tweaks the prefetch in Stalker to reduce the load times and RAM useage. I cannot be sure, but I seem to have gained an average of 5-10fps from it as well.

Yeah I use that prefetch thing but to be honest I don't notice any difference with or without it.

One for flashlights would be darker nights, i think there 2-3 versions of it depending on what you want your torch distance to be, plus it makes nights actually dark. I dont use it though becuase it doesnt have much of an effect on Static Lighting that im forced to use on my 9700m grrr. Though with static lighting ive only ever crashed once since I got it which aint bad for a 'buggy' game.

But yeah check the mod download section for it http://www.gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&lang=en&offset=-60

It was way back in April, but when the Russian 1.0002 patch came out THQ held it back for bugs and some copyright reason (dunno why) so it then got merged with some new bug fixes to make 1.0003.

They may still release a free play patch or may not i dunno, but to be honest the games more fun before you get the best stuff so I doubt the game would be as much fun after you came back from the NPP, but then again just make a save before going into it and once you've finished the game but load it back up and start having fun again.

Heres the mod that I use:

http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Faiakes_Mod_With_Sounds;78836

So far its the most popular, and widely used mod because its basically a compilation mod that incorporates the best mods out so far.

It has everything from new sounds, to vehicles, and it includes the dream mod too, you talk to npc's and you can sleep its pretty cool. Also, weapon skins and some new armor, plus the trader mod (Im not a big fan of it myself butit can be useful).

Definately check it out for an all-in-one download for some of the best stalker mods working together.

Is there any chance I could run this game with my pc?
AMD 3200+
1 gig ram
Radeon 9800 128 mb

That's slightly above the minimum specs, but I don't want to buy it and have it run at 20 fps with everything on lowest.

I have an AMD Athlon 2400 with 512 ram and the same card. You won't be able to run dynamic lighting with the 9800 but Im running on maximum with fairly good fps.
