KnightLore.gif

Knight Lore was so ahead of it's time that apparently Ultimate (later to become Rare) held it back about 6 months before release.

Good to know someone else here appreciate this gem.
I never managed to complete it and my copy (cassete) was eventually f***ed up- read error b turned a :( .
Was there a grand finnale' after you delivered all the items to the magician?

...As for old games I still play, some punk broke into my house and stole all my video games and all my pr0n! He left everything else though... So I haven't been able to play any of my "classics" since then (much less my favorite pornos!!!).
/pats new collection of games and porn... :D
I also play Alpha Centauri once in awhile, had original Wolfenstien 3D on my drive, but that one died years ago. Would REALLY like to find a copy of Command HQ, 1st PC game I bought, and still one of my favorites.

I finally finished System Shock 2 a couple of weeks ago. I had it when it first came out but for some reason did not take to it straight away but glad I played it again.

I am always playing Unreal Tournament and some of its mods like jailbreak and another game I always go back to is Silent Hunter 3

Last Christmas my sister got me this joystick with 30 commodore64 games on it
http://www.amazon.com/Commodore-64-Games-One-Joystick/dp/B000701CSM
so I have been reliving my old C64 days (yes I am that old :p) Imposible Mission 2 and Uridium: Just great! Plus I can take it round to a friends house in my bag :)

ORLY? How questionable are we talking?

You could allways try a little patch and emulation instead, here's some good progies to look out for:

Cli2nop: this thing patches your game executables, it searches for old sound hardware refrences (cli) and changes them to something modern hardware can work with (nop), patching your games with this can solve many sound issues!

VDM-Sound: Its like an old Soundblaster emulator, togeather with Cli2nop it can make the sound work on allmost anything (and the sound is usually whats preventing you from playing and crashing the game).

NOLFB: an old VESA screen mode emulator/patch, lets you run your games in thouse old resolutions that will normally just crash on XP/Win2k.

Using thouse 3 i have been able to make alot of old dos games run on XP, and run better than they ever would with Dosbox, they are a must have!

Man, I can't believe Prince Of Persia hasn't been mentioned yet (the original)! I loved that game. I never actually finished it... you have to complete the game within an hour, without the ability to save (but there were checkpoints). If you don't rescue the princess within an hour, you have to start all over again. Now that's what I call hardcore. Actually, my grandmother has one of our old PCs (a 468, though she never uses it) and every time I visit her I try to finish PoP. It's bloody hard though!

PANZER COMMANDER by SSI. What a cool WWII tank sim for its time! It is not that old really, but unfortunately will not play on the rigs of today (designed for Windows 95). When I first loaded it up, it blew me away! I though it was amazing. And much like RO today, a good amount of support and Mods for it were around. If I could tweak it I would still be playing it today! OneShot

Old games rock! You can get them ridiculously cheap too. I paid ~25eur for Command & Conquer First Decade, which includes every C&C game to date (with the exception of Sole Survivor). I haven't even finished Red Alert 2's add-ons yet D:! After C&C, it's time for Civilization and Tomb Raider >:0!

Every once in a while I play Tie Fighter Collector's Edition and Crusader: No Regret from start to finish. Privateer is also awesome, but I've only finished it once.

Tyrian and One Must Fall are great for two-player games.

With today's computing power it's awesome that you can play old games at their max settings >:-D Who needs new games when there are so many one hasn't even tried?

edit: damn autosmilies D:<

I actually prefer many of the older games because they actually have content and depth. Too many games today are short and shallow and try to hide it behind fancy graphics. I'd rather play a game with lesser graphics and more content. Take CoD for example, nice graphically but it took me all of 6 hours to play through the entire game. For my money that wasn't really WORTH my money.

As far as old favorites, well, there are all the INFOCOM games, such as Zork, A Mind Forever Voyaging, Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail Out of It, and let us not forget Leather Godesses of Phobos and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Then there's the Aces series flight sims from Lucasarts (Aces over the Pacific and Aces over Europe), the original Silent Service, Harpoon, or M-1 Tank Platoon by MicroProse. If I had every game I've ever purchased installed I'd need about five times my current HD space.

Man do I miss some of those old games...

I should find and reinstall Quake1 and the Original Unreal
I think Quake1 was the best singleplayer Quake... It was also SCARY....
The original Unreal single player was BEAUTIFUL back then on my k6-233 with ATI4mb + Voodoo1

Starcraft I restarted about 5 months ago now...

I play a bit of "Fastest" maps

But mostly the good old Use Map Settings
Smash TV
Sunken Defense
Terran Defence....

I should build myself up a p2 with dos6.2 and win98
Replay all the good old classics.... Rise of the triad, dune2, "3do's killing time"(puzzle shooter game), Strife...

But I know I wont... its one hell of a waste of time.
