Dirty Little Secrets of WW2

Want a good read?

Dirty Little Secrets of World War 2. by Jamies F. Dunnnigan and Albert A Nofi. (~400 pages). Lots of juicy little nuggets of knowledge to rub your brain on.

Did you know that MacAurther 8th Cousin of Churchil and six cousin of Roosevelt?

That the Luffwaffe had 2 million ground troops?

US really helped on the eastern front by sending waterproof telephone wire?

The first woman to be shoot down by enemy AA was Valeria Khomyakov?

Your brain will have rug burn after you rub it with this book.

Ya. those arnt the dirtest ones. Just some random ones.

One kinda dirty one in there, is that all nations had chemical weapons in large amounts. Just in cause the other side used them. And technically, some US soldiers died from chemical weapons, when a cargo ship in Italy was bombed and leaked mustard gas.

Or the US had a plan to gas Japanese islands instead of landing on them.

etc. just interesting nic-nacs mostly.

Manstein mentions the surplus Luftwaffe personel in his book, Lost Victories. At a time when the German Heer was in desperate need of manpower, the Luftwaffe goes on to pull something like 170,000 troops out of its ass to supplement its losses. He criticises Goering in his "over-doing" of everything, often using way more resources then he actually needs.

They went on to make fine troops, but they had a bit of a baptism of fire given the fact that they weren't trained as well as standard Heer soldiers were.

Yeah I even read somewhere the Americans had a plan to Nuke the Japanese at one point!

No way! That's just a vicious rumor.

Gas Japanese-held islands instead of landing on them? Might as well, considering how the Japanese defended them! On Iwo, the number of dead and wounded Americans was GREATER than the number of Japanese defenders, and only about 10% of the Japanese survived the battle.

When one's army assaults heavily fortified area, one should expect some really heavy casualties. Usualy you need as 3 as much troops than the defender has. Germans defended harsh as well, just not to your fellow US soldiers.

:rolleyes:and if you compared the standart of living in prisoonner camp, it's better to be a german rather a soviet prisonner ... (even if the high rate of death in soviet camp, it can'tbe compared to the german camp).
AFAIR , soviet camp are around 50% of death rate, the german 70% (or something like that , i remeber that soviet is under the 50% and german over and near 80%)

Well Hitler had a sick fetish for well i dont know the proper word but pissing and crapping on people, yes its true

He did to his neice and even the Americans found it out on a mind study of Hitler concluding he had this, without knowing that he done it before. Imagine the Germans finding this out when he was in power eh!
