well i have no idea whats wrong... ive completly reinstalled windows and it still happens. ive tried the latest nvidia and the betas. still having it.

... But have you tried to verify the game cache yet?

1. Load Steam
2. From the My Games tab, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
4. Steam will verify the game cache files (GCF's) - this process may take several minutes. Do not verify the cache files for multiple games simultaneously - as some games share cache files with other games, this may cause problems with verification.
5. Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.

this problem just started. i did everything i could think of and including reinstalling xp.

My gut feeling is a video card problem. Is there another card you could try instead, or a friends? Is the video card fan turning? Does the problem happen immediately, or after it runs for a while (the card heats up)? Edit: other games run OK?

i could ask someone i guess to borrow a card to try. it happens as soon as i join in. the fan is spinning and everything else. i am having problems with openGL games i am getting a nvoglnt.dll crash when i try to launch a game. that is another thing i am trying to fix.

Did you coincidentally change any drivers just before these problems? Perhaps the current drivers aren't right for you? I don't have an NVIDIA card, but maybe someone could suggest a good set of "older" drivers for you: uninstall current drivers, reboot into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner, reboot normally and install drivers, check all settings? (hopefully not a dumb question but you are running RO in D3D?)

well if someone could recommend some drivers ill give it a try. i doubt it will work but ill try anything.

I've got a 6600gt and using 91.28, they seem to be OK.
I'm not sure this is a driver problem.

Possibley a DirectX or OpenGL driver issue?

In Windows, hit start, then run, then type "dxdiag" to check out if all is ok with your directX. There are a series of tests you can do there.
