Not its not that comedy. Its role. In urban battles of stalingrad, there was lot of "cable guys". They haved cable cilinder on back. Radio contact by cable was used often. But there is problem if you want to place it in combat zone near front of enemy MGs, rifles ...

There should be maps like that, if cable guy die another soldier can pick up his equipment. There is also other factors like lenght of cable. If you select wrong way your cable lenght trick you, so you must roll back bad route. If team side establish regular radio connection they win.

Prob a bit more like 'escort'/'president'/'vip' since you need to garentee the cable man gets to where he needs too..

Actually a cable man laying a cable and setting up a post could be a good way to do mobile spawns. You cannot move it without being safe and possibly losing it. So it stays on the edge of the safe spot in combat.

We all know how that's going to work out.

ROPlayer: "Hai gaiz, ! Ima Cableguy!"

Cableguy will be the new <Epically Glorious Squad Leader, who thinks smoke is for cowards> <1337 Vasili Snipahz> . .n . ect. . .;)

I doubt anyone would really want to pickup a class that makes you vulnerable and slow. it brings a risk in placing a forward spawn, and of course people can always spawn at the default spots.

I like the principle of a cable guy more over people spawning close to a squad leader, possibly forcing the squad leader to hide somewhere just to make sure the forward spawn stays intact.

Personally I'd rather have a squadleader that is able to lead by example than to direct people from a save corner. By making the cable guy vulnerable makes it very difficult to sneak past the enemies defences with a mobile spawn, that if you manage to do so you deserve that spawn in the enemies back.

Because they are violent and and gullible so the power-hungry who seek to gain from conflict can trick them into fighting their brothers.

Doesn't explain why someone would want to set up shop in front of a hostile MG position...:p

to keep comunication, to obtain orders just in time. Stalingrad battle is about sudden conquering, sometimes you loose, sometimes you take something, that mean you must be still online to inform command about you, to call reinforcemnts or other important things like enemy movement, positions, there is no time for delay, you need information right now or you loose more.

I'd assume this idea is at least partly inspired by the level in Call of Duty 2 where you run around mending breaks in the communications wire, the entire time you're fighting a war to get to the wires. I couldn't imagine how it would be possible for that wire to not be cut to a million peices by German soldiers.

For the most part, I don't really see this idea working out.
