No more Axis/Allies

BTW, the red army is equivalent to the Heer, the soviet equivalent to the wehrmacht is the Вооружённые Силы Союза Советских Социалистических Республик, Вооружённые Силы Советского Союза (soviet armed forces) :)
You wouldn't put Armed Forces of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics (putting all this in the Russian genitive form sucks, I always used to forget how plural words work in the genitive form in the tests on my Russian course :troll:) as the name of the team, just like you wouldn't say Armed Forces of the Greater Germanic Reich. The equivalent for Heer would just be Армия, but it would be better if the teams were called Wehrmacht and Red Army (just not to use Cyrillic). Germany and Soviet Union would be also okay, but Axis and Allies don't fit well.

i didn't say that the "soviet" faction should be called "armed forces of the blah blah blah" i was just stating a fact . and the equivalent to Heer still is "red army" (i'm not refering to the word, but rather, the "idea")
i'm ok with "axis" and "allies", or at the very least "wehrmacht" and "soviet forces".

just a little thing to add to the "cyrilic vs western alphabet" discussion...
i'm not saying this is what TWI should do but in the game Hearts of Iron 3 the soviet union is written like this: "Soviэг Uиioи", red army could be spelt "яэd дяmч" it's giberish, yet understandable, and looks "soviet-ish" :troll:

Damn, I really annoys me when people use Я as R and И as N. When I saw that in HoI3 I facepalmed :troll:

Boяat :troll::troll::troll::troll:
now honestly, i get you... its like when (on the movies) there are germans talking to each other... in english... with a german accent. they should either speak "good"* english or german, not that silly "in between" c***p

*"good", also known as "without a silly accent"

When I saw that in HoI3 I facepalmed :troll:

i smiled a lil' bit when i saw it, and i trully smiled when i saw the font they used for Germany. Anyway, i'm not saying that they should do it :), it was just an inocent comment.

Or. Why not just leave it as Axis/Allies as that was infact what they were.

You had the Soviets,USA,UK,France,Belgium and the rest who were the Allied Powers

And you had the Axis which was Germany,Italy,Japan,Romania etc.

If any thing add something to the game which would enable you to pick a Unit from a set list which have some sort of feature in your name or whatever. But adding the likes of 15 different languages or teams to the game is just plain daft.

We use "Axis" and "Allies" for the simple reason that, given Rising Storm (as an a example - Darkest Hour, Mare Nostrum and Carpathian Crosses in RO1) it won't just be Germans vs Soviet. This way we also get the Americans, British, Canadians, Poles, ANZACS (and others) for the Allies, plus the Romanians, Japanese and others for the Axis.

So the team names are hardcoded? In that case I think that it is reasonable to keep the names as they are, although it is aesthetically distasteful to have the Soviets referred to as "Allies," given they were never a part of Britain's coalition.

In HoI3 its divided into Allies, Axis and Comintern, seeing as the only reason the Russians fought on the Allies side was because Germany was anti-Communism and Britain had no allies at the beginning of the war except... France. (And a few smaller nations, i.e. the CW.)

And as soon as WW2 ended it went straight back to West vs East anyway, it was just in place to defeat Germany.

Either way...

Well actually, you forgot Poland.

And I don't appreciate it when a candidate for President denigrates the contributions of these brave soldiers.

So the team names are hardcoded?

i'm not really tech savy with game files etc... but from occasionally digging around in the game folders for downloading maps/mutators/mods and doing a little map editing in the past, there seemed to be a ton of files that would always begin with either "Axis" or "Allies".....it's probably significantly easier to use more broad terms when titling various, similarly linked files like textures, sounds, animations etc...
