[Tuning] If you hang/crash at the splash screen!

I dont know, but I have a strong feeling that this is mostly CPU related. Ill let you know when I get my new Phenom II x4 980.

Expensive buy yourself a new computer - advertisements these video games. Doesnt matter. My CPU was the bottleneck anyway and I love RO2 just as I loved RO1. And then there is Skyrim. The other 60e advertisement. ... ARMA 3... my poor wallet.

Derp, most of us have a good processor and still have the bug, and moreover, I have the exact same processor on another PC at another location (i bought two) where the game launches fine.
Don't try to accuse the GPU here and then say it's our fault if that game doesn't work, don't even try. The problem is not GPU related, as proven by the guys having great ones.

Still locking up at the initial splash screen. This started to happen after the previous update. I tried to get a launch log, but one was not created. Followed the steps to try and have a log created, but no luck.

The Splash screen comes and seems like the game is loading, but screen will go black. My monitor does say "out of range", so it seems the game might be trying to start in an unsupported resolution. I went into the .ini and set start in full screen to False, no luck. Also tried adjusting the resolution in the .ini to 800x600, no luck. So after that, I tried deleting the local content from steam and reinstalled to no luck.

After having played RO2 for about 50hrs since launch, its like having your favorite toy taken away!. Which was running silk smooth.

Specs,
Windows Vista 64
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual core 2.70ghz.
4gig RAM
AMD Radeon HD6450 Edit: running 11.9 drivers.

We Need Help With This Issue

We Need Help With This Issue

Hey PUTZ,

Is there another way to create a launch log than the one you provided a few pages back?
It didn't work for me, and many others in here.

There are a great deal of gamers who are still unable to launch the game past the splash screen .. and now I am seeing more gamers who are now getting this same problem after updates.

There are nearly 7000 views on this thread, so that would indicate a fairly serious problem that hasn't been addressed in nearly a month and a half.

It would be nice if we could at least get some suggestions to try!!

I have just fixed my splash screen hang problem.
This is how I did it.

go to

c/users/..../MyDocuments/MyGames/RedOrchestra2/ROGame/Config

open ROEngine.ini with notepad

look for 'Fullscreen' in [SystemSettings] section

.
.
.
SpeedTreeLeaves=True
SpeedTreeFronds=True
OnlyStreamInTextures=False
LensFlares=True
FogVolumes=True
FloatingPointRenderTargets=True
OneFrameThreadLag=True
UseVsync=False
UpscaleScreenPercentage=True
Fullscreen=True <----------changed to False
AllowD3D10=False
AllowRadialBlur=True
SkeletalMeshLODBias=0
ParticleLODBias=0
.
.
.

Save the file ( do not use 'Save As' option, just 'Save')

Once you do this the game will boot in windowed mode. As it reaches the splash screen a message will appear from your virus scanner asking you to allow the game
to do something. I could not see this message in fullscreen mode, even when I used
ctrl+alt+del to start task manager to get back to windows desktop. Once I allowed it
the game went ahead and booted fine.
You might want to try to join a multiplayer game in windowed mode first to allow all
other virus scanner pop-up alerts.
After this go to video options and check fullscreen.

Hope this helps someone.

I have just fixed my crash at splash screen.

got to

c/users/..../MyDocuments/MyGames/RedOrchestra2/ROGame/Config

open ROEngine.ini with notepad

find the [SystemSettings] section

.
.
.
SpeedTreeLeaves=True
SpeedTreeFronds=True
OnlyStreamInTextures=False
LensFlares=True
FogVolumes=True
FloatingPointRenderTargets=True
OneFrameThreadLag=True
UseVsync=False
UpscaleScreenPercentage=True
Fullscreen=True <----------changed to False
AllowD3D10=False
AllowRadialBlur=True
SkeletalMeshLODBias=0
ParticleLODBias=0
DetailMode=2
.
.
.

Once you do this the game will boot up in windowed mode. When it reached
the splash part a message popped up from my virus scanner asking me to
'Allow' the game to do something. Once I allowed it the game booted up fine.
You may want to try joining a multiplayer game to make sure there are no
additional prompts from you virus scanner before using Video settings under
Options in game to set back to fullscreen mode.

Please note, I could not see these virus scanner pop-ups even after using
ctrl+alt+del to get back to my desktop at the splash screen. The game just
seemed to hang.

Hope this helps.

This may help with a crash at splash screen, but many here can't get past the splash screen icon, so there is nothing to hide the message you refer to. (We are still on our desktops looking at the icon)
That message happens when most games are installed.

I also believe the file you refer to is in steamapps, or at least mine is.

Thanks for the info though .. maybe it will help someone here and is more than has been offered by anyone from TWI in a very long time.

That is the point where my game appears to hang. Nothing happened when i got to
the the splash part. I had to shut down my pc each time using ctrl+alt+del each
time it reached that point.

The file I'm referring to is not in steamapps. It is the windows user profile that you
are currently using for the game. This is where the game stores your settings in
windows for that profile, so it is NOT in the Steam folder at all.

You will find it in your windows directory as I have stated above (mine was installed
in the C/ drive).

This directory

c/users/..../MyDocuments/MyGames/RedOrchestra2/ROGame/Config

is for Windows 7 users.

The dots between '/users/' and 'MyDocuments/' represents your user profile
name in Windows 7

I have not installed the game in other versions of windows and cannot help there
sry :(

I guess that could be the difference since I am running XP Pro!
I searched the entire file using the path you provide, there is a no "System Settings".

Thanks for your offer of help as it may help someone with Win 7!

In this path:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\red orchestra 2\ROGame\Config\DefaultEngine.ini .. there is a 'Systems Settings"

Also included the startup full screen settings:

[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
StartupFullscreen=False

[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
NetServerMaxTickRate=20

[SystemSettings]
AdaptiveBloom=False
Fullscreen=True ... (I changed this to False as anything is worth a try, but it didn't made a difference)
ResX=1024
ResY=768
bEnableForegroundSelfShadowing=False
SceneBrightness=1.0
LightFunctions=True
MotionBlurNonGameplay=True
AmbientOcclusion=False
GraphicsQualitySetting=2
CharacterQualityDetail=2
TextureQualityDetail=3
ShadowQualityDetail=2
LightQualityDetail=2
PostProcessQualityDetail=2
OcclusionCullingQuality=0
FXQualityDetail=2
SLSNativeResX=1024
SLSNativeResY=768
NumHorizontalDisplayArray=0
NumVerticalDisplayArray=0
BezelCorrectionX=0
BezelCorrectionY=0
SingleVoiceVariation=false
AllowMLAA=False
AllowFXAA=False
FXAAPresetLevel=2
AllowHumanIK=True
UseUE3StaggeredWait=False
UseOneWayRelevancyChecks=True
DoFacingRelevancyChecks=False
NotFacingNotRelevant=True
SimpleRelevancyCheckDistance=5000
SimpleTeamRelevancyChecks=True
ROPawnAlwaysRelevantDistanceOverride=0
EnableSteamStats=True
WholeSceneDynamicShadowRadius=1500
NumWholeSceneDynamicShadowCascades=1
CascadeDistributionExponent=3
DOFBlurValResolutionFactor=0.5
ForceUpdateAnimationRadius=500
OneFrameThreadLag=True
Bloom=True
UseVsync=False

It appears TWI stores different files in different paths on different OS.

Is anyone from TWI even still working on this issue??

I beleive that most gamers who have this issue have just left the forums and moved onto something else after more than 6 weeks of waiting, thus the reason for few posts here recently.

I do still see this issue very often in other threads, but no solution!

I just hang around to see if Tripwire is going to do anything about it, or just continue to ignore it and sweep it under the rug.
(So to speak)(and fix a few bugs here and there)

I recently posted in another thread, but that one also was ignored after one short response.
The thread then turned to hit detection which means nothing to those gamers who are unable to launch their games.

And yes .. those who are able to create launch logs and dmp files, have submitted launch logs and dmp files, but still no solution .. or for that matter .. no response.

I have asked several times in different threads for any other way to create a launch log other the one suggested in the thread in the following link .. or anything else that would help.
