Idea to increase introduction and circulation of user made maps maps

It seems to me that the new maps that are coming out havn't seen much play. Granted there are a few which have made it into a regular circulation, but I believe that this would add to the playerbase that download the maps and help overall diversity.

Would it be possible to get a Steam Workshop page for RO2?

The new maps that are coming out are huge. and with custom made assets they are even bigger. I also find it difficult to download new maps every time that I want to play since i don't get a chance to play that regularly, and if you try to download them before entering the round, it takes up the entire round and sometimes a signifigant chunk of the time that I have to play. On top of that, a lot of new maps aren't played and I think that it is largely due to the listed problems above.

I believe that if there was a steam workshop, that more people would download the new maps and that we could better facilitate a greater diversity of maps in the various server rotations.

Im not sure how steam workshop would work with updating maps as things are fixed/changed in various beta versions, but i think its worth looking into.

Anyways, food for thought.

I believe TWI are really working on both SDK and redirect issues and probably hope to have them fixed for the next Really Big Patch.

Until then, here's a handy solution that LordGleedo came up with:

It's a custom content downloader and installer that grabs stuff from the redirect servers that participate. Works really well.

We're in sort of a bind right now, because as far as I can tell....:

There actually are no (zero) maps that have "come out," as in final release. They are all in some stage of beta or another, which with redirect issues is frustrating for a player to download 9 or more versions of the same map. On the other hand it could be strongly argued by some mappers that this is precisely because they don't get played enough in beta phases. Part of it is due to a relatively small community. Maps don't get tested behind the scenes anymore, it seems. Mappers for RO2 are apparently forced to rely on the general community to test their maps.
