Global Rules
  • Forum moderators may or may not be Tripwire Interactive staff members, but either way, please respect them, as they are the authority of the forums. Speaking to them with intentional spite will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of your forum privileges.
  • Any decisions made by any member of staff or moderator are final and not subject to discussion. Doing so may result in a ban from the site. General Behaviour
  • Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
  • Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention either in the title or the body of the post.
  • Up to 10 emoticons are allowed in a post
  • Political discussions are prohibited.
  • Flaming - We do not tolerate abusive, malicious, personal attacks. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior.
  • Trolls - Anyone deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages is not welcome. You will be banned (possibly without warning depending on the severity of the issue) if you persist in this behavior.
  • Personal insults (directed at anyone) will result in a ban. If the behavior is not corrected, it will be made more permanent.
  • Constructive criticism is welcome. However keep in mind we (and other forums goers) may not agree with you. If you can't keep the conversation civil, you will be removed from the forums.
  • The use of hyperbole, one liners, and images as part of a forum debate is likely to get you infracted. You have many ways to participate and be a constructive part of this community, even when you disagree.
  • To make the highlighted bits above 100% clear to everyone, the following WILL NOT BE TOLERATED:

Username, Avatar and Signature Rules
  • Multiple registrations result in a ban.

  • All signatures should not exceed the following size limits, you can have both text and images
  • - For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 100 chars per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. (Blank lines count as lines.)

Offensive material
The following is a list of some things that MAY be considered "offensive" by the moderators and the team. This is NOT an exclusive list and it does depend very much on context.

Crossing the line into "offensive" territory is likely to get you asked to change your name, sig or avatar or to withdraw/delete posts. This will be done politely by the moderators. If you refuse to comply further action WILL be taken once started, ultimately leading to banning from the forums.

A key point: please attempt to use your brains. What is mild humour to you may well be deeply offensive to others. While we have no intention of acting as politically-correct "thought police", we are on the lookout for those things that can cause offense and, in some cases, are actually still illegal in some jurisdictions.
  1. Names recalling notorious war criminals or personalities.
  2. Names recalling atrocities and war crimes in general, or units with particularly odious histories.
  3. Use of obscenities and expletives.
  4. Blatant racism, mysogynism or many other "ism"s.
  5. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Nazism or Fascism; this does not include pics of soldiers who happen to have such symbols on their uniform, unless we feel this has been done to provoke. Please note that many Nazi symbols (including the Swastika) are still illegal in Germany and other countries and considered deeply offensive by many Europeans.
  6. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Stalinism.
  7. On both the previous two, the moderators' views on the intention and impact of use of such symbols will be final - not yours. Please be understanding if you are advised to change something.
  8. In general, if a sig/avatar represents your allegiances in-game and is clearly "in part", it is likely to be fine; if the moderators feel you are trying to demonstrate unpalatable political allegiances, or to use it in an attempt to ridicule or provoke others you WILL be asked to change it. RO is NOT the place to make any extremist political statements of any kind.
So people get the idea, some examples that would be considered offensive, numbered as above:
  1. "Hitler", "Beria"
  2. "NKVD Blocking Detachment", "Einsatzgruppen"
  3. This one should be pretty obvious...
  4. So should this - and it includes calling all Germans "Nazis" and all Soviets/Russians "Commies". It got boring 50 years ago, so stop it.
  5. Use of swastikas, fasces, SS-runes and so on for the Axis.
  6. There is actually very little overt symbolism from the Stalinist era; the hammer-and-sickle isn't offensive per se.
A simple rule-of-thumb: many Europeans find Nazi symbolism of any sort offensive; many Americans still find Soviet symbolism offensive. Engage your brain before using.

Final Note: this is NOT open to debate, so please do NOT start whining and moaning if a moderator asks you to change something. They will advise at first, giving reasons, then, if you take no notice, they will step up the pressure through to banning.

    Favorite Role: Commander - Machine Gunner - Anti-Tank - Tank Commander

    Favorite Weapon: P38 (Feels like a James Bond Pistol killing with style) - T33 (Probably the most brutal pistol in the game) - MG34 (Accurate, Alt Firing Modes Full & Semi Auto, Barrel Change) - DP28 (Accurate, Good Hip Firing Ability, Seems to reload quicker, doesn't overheat as fast) - G41 (Firing Sounds are Good, Detailed Reload Animations, Accurate) - Anti-Tank Rifle (Good Against Tanks, Better Against Infantry, Wall Penetration, Long Range Shots with little drop)

    Favorite Feature: (new features to RO) Penetrable Objects - Cover System - Ammo Check - Properly Pivoting Bi-Pod Systems - Adjustable Sights - Blind Fire

    Favorite Map: Pavlov's House - Barracks - Fallen Fighters

    Either that or where you aim is never where you shoot & you have to be less than 10 feet away to hit something.

    ROCA & RO1 had a bit of this issue with making up inaccuracy for the pistols, but their stopping power was still pretty good when you hit.

    Now in RO2, they act like they should..... although I did snag one enemy on the other side of Fallen Fighters with a P38 from the 2nd floor window while they were running..... I think that was fluke though.

    It was still cool.

      ROLE: Rifleman. Sounds boring, but doing well in this game with a standard issue bolt action is even harder than it was in RO:Ost....and I like the challenge.

      WEAPON: Besides the bolts, I'd have to go with the G41 and SVT-40. Overall the weapons in this game are exceptionally well done.

      NEW FEATURE(S): Mantling. Mantling. More Mantling. Proper deployment system for mg's. Ammo check is nice too.

      MAP(S): Stock - Red October Factory. It has a large-ish & non-linear feel to it. Good spacing for flanking too. Nice balance of CQC and semi-long range shots. Custom - Cold Steel. With a little more polish, that could be the best ROHoS map yet. Tripwire needs to take a VERY CLOSE LOOK at that map. For those who haven't played's basically like Lazur from Ost.

      Thanks for a 'nothing but positive' thread...there's a lot to mention there and I hope this thread stays that way!

        ROLE: Squad Leader, I like commanding a squad and working together.

        WEAPON: She's 5 feet tall, about 4kg, 111 years old now, 53 then, and fires a 7.62x54mmR at 800m m/s. She's my Mozy and has to this day yet to fail me. The Pahpahshah does offer a close second though and in third comes the Model 1895 revolver.

        NEW FEATURE: Mantling, blindfire, and the moving from place to place in tanks.

        MAPS: LENINGRAAAAD... Oh wait... Grain Elevator for infantry only and Pavlov's House for Combined Arms. Unfortunately I have yet to play the custom maps since none are in beta and I really don't want to go near the mess that is the full game at the moment.

          Whoops, forgot my favorite map: Grain elevator. At first I hated it, but once you get to know it it's awesome.

            Favorite Role - Marksman: While not my most played role. It's always a treat to me when it's open.

            Favorite Weapon - MN 91/30

            Favorite Map - Spartanovka (Haven't got a chance to try the newer maps yet)

            Favorite feature - First person Cover

              Rifleman or Commander depending on my mood. I love helping the team stratagize and keeping up with artillery and recon planes, but sometimes I'm just in the mood to be just another peasant.

              M9130 Mosin-Nagant. I love the history and simplicity of this weapon. It embodies the spirit of Russia. It is strong and reliable and most of all efficient.
              I admire this weapon so much, I own one that was used in WW2.

              Spartanovka. This map not only looks amazing but offers very unique gameplay. In no other game does a battle feel more authentic then when you're running through the village of Spartanovka.
              First-person cover system. I use it more than I probably should because of how great the animations look. It also feels more real than manually using cover.
              I'd like it even more if they'd tweak the reload animations (if you hit reload while popping out of cover, the animation used is not the "cover" animation)

                favorite feature- cover system, penetration system, vaulting, bullet calcs
                Favorite map..... eh... don't really have a favorite map. I can tell you what map I hate, and that's fallen fighters, w/ w/o tanks. They need to add a sewer system underneath that we can fight under the park cause as it is now, it's a turkey shoot.

                  Squad Leader. I like how a squad leader has acces to both rifles and SMGs. I mostly opt for a semi-auto rifle but when there is more close range combat I don't have to switch classes to get an SMG.

                  K98, the first weapon where I got level 50 for and it'll be a while until I get my next level 50 (PPSh is level 40 but I don't play with it as much anymore).
                  People here sure love the Mosin-Nagant, but I'm not really a fan. I can't put my finger on why I prefer it less than the K98.
                  When it comes down to sniper rifles it's the other way around. I like the MN sniper rifle way more than the K98 sniper rifle because the MN gives a more open view in iron sights.

                  Pavlov's house. I just love how this map resembles the real life situation when I looked at a picture online. It gives a lot of vantage points because of all the tall buildings and there are flanking possibilities.

                  The amount of detail there is in the weapons. They sound great, they feel powerful and I just love everything about them. Every type of weapon feels and handles differently. As TC said the Reload Check feature is great.
                  And so is the fact that there are different reload animations depending on the amount of ammo you have left. The G41 for example has 3 different reload animations: awesome.

                    Favorite Role - Commander, followed closely by the bolt wielding rifleman!

                    Favorite Weapon - SMOKE! - is that a weapon? Well, it's my "tool" of choice.

                    Favorite Map - Tough one... probably dead heat between apartments and grain elevator. I like dense, urban maps with lots of house-to-house fighting. Coldsteel is up there too, if we're including the custom maps.

                    Favorite feature - Hmm, possibly mantling. I like the destructible objects in RO2 too...

                        Role: Assault/ Elite Assault in Classic. I never use the MKB, but the AVT I find just too attractive.

                        Weapon: AVT. Nothing like a good 'ol Battle Rifle. Switching that sucker to full auto not only scares the enemy, but yourself. You take a real risk when someone pops around the corner and you end up turning a roof into swiss cheese. Takes skill to use too like everything else in game.

                        Map: I'd have to say Fallen Fighters. It's just gigantic and you have to crawl if you want to get someone. Standing up or crouching is suicide. I love being in the center knowing the rest of the guys are fighting overhead as I am having my own battle trying to capture a point while on my stomach.

                        Feature: Brass checks by far. They have been done a few times before, but never done right. I love how you can just hold down the reload button and check how many rounds you have and whether you should reload. Why? Because no one is doing it for you. You are on your own out there, buddy.
