[Movie] Unsere M

Dunno. It visually seems like a ripoff of Spielberg/Hanks productions...

Also, at least judgeing from part one, it suffers from the same problem as Letters from Iwo jima: the protagonists mostly have a modern, western set of values and ethics, and more or less tag along while opposing the ideology.

IMHO it would've been much more interesting and effective if it would've shown how a horrific ideology like national socialism could seduce and enthrall ordinary people...

But then, it's better than enemy at the gates, so there's that, and I've not seen it in it's entirety.

It would be probably more daring and entertaining to start with a cast of almost entirely ideal and loyal national socialists parroting the party rhetoric all day and then giving them arcs over the course of the series wherein some become disillusioned and others become ingrained and lose touch with all semblances of "standard" morality. But being a serial, people would be complaining constantly about the show's content after the first few episodes air and it could be pulled before they reach the conclusion.

I think it is a bit hyped if you ask me. It is pretty sad if a german movie is considered excelent just because it is not as bad as the usual priductions we see here. It is a good production and I actually enjoyed it so far (missed the last part) but they wasted some chances. Because they air it at 8pm in germany (prime time) it has to be less violent etc because it basically has a +12 rating. The characters are not exactly flat but it is clear that every character is basically the incarnation a different state of mind.

We have the young soldier who does not really want to be in war at all and does not believe in the ideology he is pressed in but the circumstances pretty much break him.

We have the older soldier who is not exactly that far from the younger version but puts his duty above pretty much everything else.

We have the opportunistic girl who will do pretty much everything for her own sake.

We have the younger girl who is pretty idealistic, believes in the ideology she moves in only to realize her mistakes when it is already too late.

The only character which does not exactly fit a trope is the tailor in the show.

As already said, it is not bad (especially for a german production which are often terrible) but far from being a masterpiece.

Thanks for this, going to have a look (whatever may be said of its quality).

Edit: Correct me if I'm wrong, as my German is not up to where I'd like it to be, but a glance at the comments reveals quite a heart-crushing horror, or does it? I don't know, maybe I've been living in some side-real world where I thought Hitler and his cronies were the bad guys, but apparently it was not the case?

What annoyed me most were the main characters. Their whole behaviour annoyed me so much. I have only seen like half of part one and whole part 3 and even this was enough to dislike them. I don't know why they didn't base the main characters on the average german of the time.

Spoiler!
