The "anything" thread

I don't have much of a problem with this pop generations fads I'm just disappointed that these fads lack so much quality for the sake of speed.

Big Example: Nike Shirts. Every damn nike shirt is a drug or sexual innuendo. In capital letters they always say something like "GET HIGH" or "GET WET" or "I LIKE BEING ON TOP"

Also contemporary music is no longer poetically based. There's no metaphors, it's like "We're gonna f**k like animals" instead of a more discrete metaphor. The repetitious statement "I'm faded" (it means "I'm high" for those who don't really know) for about 45 seconds of a song is ridiculous. Quality and the necessity for thought has been sacrificed for speed and profit.

Yes I know newer technology allows us to speed up and I believe we can evolve like people have done in the past with new technology, but this time its too exponential and we need to slow down just a tad and really put thought and joy in our lives.

(Oh and I'm 16 btw.)

There's always been bad music. I'd rather live now than any other period from a music perspective. I can listen to anything thanks to the internet. I can listen to some gregorian chanting one second, then some Beatles, and then a big slab of grunge followed up by some Romanian folk and finally end with some obscure indie post-rock stuff. What other time period could I do that in? Ya I'm missing out on the live experience of some music obviously but on the whole it's better.

People always complaining about today's music need to explore stuff beyond the Top 40. There's loads of good music out there :)

It's not "contemporary music", it's "contemporary commercial music".

The second half wasn't aimed specifically at you but a general statement.

That's good to hear mate.

My point was that you should not act as if you were so superior. I believe that I'm fairly intelligent myself or at least I've always managed to set my priorities right and right now I'm in my 2nd semester @law. I mean yeah I live in a city, I see many fools on the streets but then I just tell myself "Oh well, they're not gonna make in anyhow". When I see 16year old wannabe-gangsters hanging out infront of McDonalds playing some ****ty music on their phones it makes me laugh. But that's it. Sure they are fools who will probably never achieve anything in their life, and often it's not even their own fault but that they're born into this part of society, but I don't care. That's the difference. I do my ****, make sure I study something that will both get me money and have me enjoying the work I do, make sure I hang out with the right friends, and enjoy life.

It's funny you say that because i don't actually act superior. In the KF forums i've probably got a superior knowledge of firearms than most, but i use my power for good. :)
The fools on the streets are sadly the majority, and that's whom i aimed my post at. These people think they're so cool, so tough, and in a few years they'll either be dead or on the streets. They contribute nothing to society, and really have no good traits. Also guidos. F*ck guidos.
It's also really sad that so many people are born into poverty or low-income families, then get into shady lifestyles and think that's normal. Ideally instead of doing drugs and shooting/attacking eachother they'd be making music about their struggles and expressing themselves in a constructive, not destructive, manner.
It's good to see you hang out with friends, that's something i lack and really can't do.

Giving a **** about the average lowlifes is a waste of time. By that I mean spending time complaining about your socalled degenerates. Not helping poor/sick people, which is of course necessary and a good thing.

Poor/sick people are definitely worth helping, because usually they get into that predicament not by choosing it, but by life bending them over. Normally i just look at the lowlifes, make sure i distance myself so as to keep my valuables, and go on with my life. On the bus to uni i read a book, so that is more interesting than these wigga thugs.

You calling yourself "quiet" or even "a ghost" is funny. Of course it depends on how exactly you define "quiet", but being a quiet person in the way I see it is definitely not positive. Intelligence isn't just being good at mathemathics, a huge part of intelligence is social intelligence. Sometimes you have to be noisy or otherwise outstanding. I'm not really a noisy type myself, but if you want success you'll have to have an opinion on things and voice it, plus sometimes a bit showing-off doesn't hurt either. All in healthy doses of course.

I'm defining quiet as someone who doesn't really speak unless spoken to, or unless with friends. I usually need a friend/acquaintance to meet people and i'm really not that interesting in person. I'm really quite boring and shy; because i just haven't really found a good deal of people with similar interests, i guess. In reference to the thing you said about flaws a few posts ago, that's probably why i'm a ghost. I'm probably too self-conscious and i really have nothing to say that i feel people may want to hear. I do occasionally have something to say, but that's pretty rare. There was a couple of blokes at uni talking about guns and hunting, and i didn't say anything, i didn't want to reveal my power level.

But a cynical, quiet being who dislikes everything and has a negative attitude towards everything probably won't have much of a fulfilled life, no matter how intelligent you may be otherwise. (Not directed to you in person as I don't know you, like you said)

I don't see myself as being cynical, i see myself as more of a realist who sees things for what they are. I don't dislike everything, just the **** that annoys me, if you can get that. I have plenty of things that i like, music and drawing and books, and the like. Stephen King, Raymond E. Feist, George R. R. Martin, Iron Maiden, JRD, hell even black metal and the Beatles. I like plenty of stuff but i don't vocalise that. At least not in that post.

In my eyes it is all about balance. Studying/working something that satisfies you, at the same time keeping your social life in a way that satisfies you as well as always having an occupation and you won't give a rats *** about the ugly reality of the justin bieber world.

I feel the same way. For the last few weeks i was in an IT course that i thought i liked, but after the eatsir break i realised that was not the place for me. I then started a multimedia course and i love it. The lectures are full of interesting theory and the practical tasks are really fun. I love this course and i find it easy because of that.
Generally i don't even notice the world of ****, but when i do it's on tv. I love my music and when i go out i take it with me.

Besides, who other than alcoholics drinks to get drunk? I'm pretty sure most people drink to have a good time, which is totally normal in society.
I do remember someone last year saying something along the lines of
If you're drinking you might as well get drunk
I hate this attitude. Drink to have fun, but if you can't have fun without getting pissed then you have issues.

Again, nobody drinks for the purpose of drinking, except for alcoholics and maybe 12 year olds getting drunk for the first time.

Other than that people usually drink when going out so things often are funnier and more relaxed. This is something completely normal in society and has always been. Be it alcohol in our culture, waterpipe in the ottoman culture etc. It get's people more relaxed/talkative.

As for the rest, like I said before: I consider myself a realist as well, the difference is that I manage to occupy myself iwth stuff I like so that I don't even get as far as considering to complain about all the **** that's going on.

That entire post was brought on because someone started it, i forget who and exactly why.

Normally i'm too wrapped up in my own life to give a rat's about the people i find annoying. That's how i view aspects of life, but i rarely bring it up, dwell on it, and i almost never discuss it.

I'm a "gun geek" and I take offense at your generalization. :p
And yes, my observation would be, "Get ready for all the naysayer who say that video games don't affect the psychy".

With the first two pictures, is it the mentioned pornography that's "posed by model" or the people in the photos? Because if it's the people, as I suspect, am I to assume that they actually caught the filthy pervert in the picture below and that photo wasn't staged?

EDIT: Good Guy GoG. Take more responsibility than they'd have to.
