Hi,
lets post possible sources of inspiration for (fellow) mappers!
Please, no discussion in here, no questions, no map requests, nothing!

Just sources of inspiration. E.g. a movie title with a screenshot and a short description why it might be a possible source of inspiration. Or a link to an image of a building or a piece of machinery.

Here is a website with many rendered images of oil-rig concepts:
http://www.ciaas.no/
If you want to build a realistic oil-rig you can take a few images from there and either stick to one or combine elements from a few of them.

Robert briscoe who is working on the mod dear esther for hl2 has an interesting dev blog. In this page there is some concept art that was made for him and i think its awesome. Especially the lighthouse.

Indeed, I've been following that blog and that guy sure is talented.

I find abandoned places quite inspiring, so here are a few addresses:

I think that guy's drawings are a good source of inspiration aswell:

Usually using other games as a source of inspiration, especially in terms of layout. I'm currently using a Borderlands arena for inspiration of a layout. Not sure it works out, though. Corruption was based on a couple of rooms from a very old map of mine, DM-Vrais for UT... if you look closely, you can find the layout outlines. :)
When coming to visuals, take a close look to anything science fiction, suits me more than urban legends, Dead Space, Alien, and anything industrial, factories and so on.

I would love to see some more London maps -
South bank between courtyard of shell building, festival hall and london eye
Inside battersea power station (if i did a map i'd love to make this.)
Leicester/trafalgar/parliament square. There's already a smaller park/square map that i haven't seen for ages it was good thou.
In+under the stands of a football ground.
Around docklands area, with millenium dome.
There's still so much of London that could be done it's a shame ppl don't attempt it.
