It still works. However, gold and regular share the same ammo pool so it's not very useful.

You have to buy one kind yourself and get someone to drop you the other.

But there was a brief time when you could just buy them yourself, and each had its own ammo pool.

That is insane not that it's impossible to do but it's overpowered so i could see why it was fixed. Edit: Oh ok nevermind i get what you are saying you can carry 2 AA-12s but you can't actually duel wield them.
