Forum Rules

CHANGES
  • Items changed, or highlighted for future attention, on 20 July 2013 are highlighted in yellow.
Global Rules
  • Forum moderators may or may not be Tripwire Interactive staff members, but either way, please respect them, as they are the authority of the forums. Speaking to them with intentional spite will not be tolerated and may result in the loss of your forum privileges.
  • Any decisions made by any member of staff or moderator are final and not subject to discussion. Doing so may result in a ban from the site. The owners of Tripwire Interactive Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason, as well as to remove access to the forums for any individuals with or without warning for breaches of the rules.
  • If you have a complaint regarding another user, PM the appropriate moderators, or if you have an administrative issue, [RO]schneidzekk.
General Behaviour
  • Use the search function before posting. Chances are your question has already been answered.
  • Use a title that describes the content of your post. Don't use all caps or special characters to draw attention either in the title or the body of the post.
  • Up to 10 emoticons are allowed in a post
  • Political discussions are prohibited.
  • Flaming - We do not tolerate abusive, malicious, personal attacks. You will be banned if you persist in this behavior.
  • Trolls - Anyone deliberately antagonizing other forum users by posting 'flame bait' type messages is not welcome. You will be banned (possibly without warning depending on the severity of the issue) if you persist in this behavior.
  • Personal insults (directed at anyone) will result in a ban. If the behavior is not corrected, it will be made more permanent.
  • Constructive criticism is welcome. However keep in mind we (and other forums goers) may not agree with you. If you can't keep the conversation civil, you will be removed from the forums.
  • The use of hyperbole, one liners, and images as part of a forum debate is likely to get you infracted. You have many ways to participate and be a constructive part of this community, even when you disagree.
  • To make the highlighted bits above 100% clear to everyone, the following WILL NOT BE TOLERATED:
    1. Personal attacks, insults, antagonism of any forum-goers, moderators or Tripwire Interactive staff.
    2. Breaches of confidentiality and privacy of any sort.
    3. Any form of racism, bigotry or attacks on race, creed or color.
    4. Linking to posts on other forums related to ANY of the above, whether you are the originator or not, without exception.
  • There has been too much in the way of abhorrent personal behaviors in the past. These will cease. It doesn't matter who started it or who reacted to it - it will all result in moderator action. If you have to indulge your hatreds, for whatever reason, go do it elsewhere - and do not try and drag our forum-goers over to enjoy your hatreds.
  • We understand that people have strong feelings about our games, what we do for a living and how we respond (or don't) to comments on the forums. We all aren't going to agree about everything. So, BE CIVIL in your disagreements!
DO NOTs
  • DO NOT Transmit any message, information, data, text, software or graphic files, or other materials ("Content") that is unlawful (including illegal drug usage), harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, hateful or racially, ethnically, sexually or otherwise objectionable. This includes publicizing private information, such as individual's real names, IP addresses and anything else that might be used to identify them to the freakier members of the internet. This also means you may NOT publically share private communications (PM, email or anything else) without the original poster's permission.
  • DO NOT Post or transmit any Content that contains a virus, Trojan horse or other mischievous Content.
  • DO NOT Post or transmit any unsolicited advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail", "spam", "chain letters", "pyramid schemes" or any other form of solicitation.
  • DO NOT link to posts on any other forums, or any other form of media, that breaches our rules. It will be treated just the same as if you had posted it here.
  • DO NOT Double Post, cross Post or restart closed threads.
  • DO NOT Intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international law, rule or regulation.
  • DO NOT Upload or transmit any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights ("Rights") of any party.
  • DO NOT post cheats or exploits; THIS INCLUDES ALL/ANY REFERENCES TO HACKING, PIRATED SOFTWARE etc.
  • DO NOT complain about being banned from a server and DO NOT complain about other players on servers - that is between you and the admin, no need to get the community involved.
Username, Avatar and Signature Rules

  • No offensive user names
  • Avatars:
    Avatars are disabled.
  • All signatures should not exceed the following size limits, you can have both text and images
  • - For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 100 chars per line. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed. (Blank lines count as lines.)
  • - For images in signatures: 1 image up to 400 pixels wide, 150 pixels tall and 100kb in size plus 2 lines normal size text and up to 100 chars per line
Netiquette: Written text has no inflection, and, as such, you should be careful how you write your messages as interpretation will vary from person to person. Please take advantage of the built-in emoticons to add such expression to your words. Please remember the golden rule: to treat other forum users the way you would like to be treated. Please use common courtesy, and enjoy using Red Orchestra's forums
Offensive material
The following is a list of some things that MAY be considered "offensive" by the moderators and the team. This is NOT an exclusive list and it does depend very much on context.

Crossing the line into "offensive" territory is likely to get you asked to change your name, sig or avatar or to withdraw/delete posts. This will be done politely by the moderators. If you refuse to comply further action WILL be taken once started, ultimately leading to banning from the forums.

A key point: please attempt to use your brains. What is mild humour to you may well be deeply offensive to others. While we have no intention of acting as politically-correct "thought police", we are on the lookout for those things that can cause offense and, in some cases, are actually still illegal in some jurisdictions.
  1. Names recalling notorious war criminals or personalities.
  2. Names recalling atrocities and war crimes in general, or units with particularly odious histories.
  3. Use of obscenities and expletives.
  4. Blatant racism, mysogynism or many other "ism"s.
  5. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Nazism or Fascism; this does not include pics of soldiers who happen to have such symbols on their uniform, unless we feel this has been done to provoke. Please note that many Nazi symbols (including the Swastika) are still illegal in Germany and other countries and considered deeply offensive by many Europeans.
  6. Use of symbolism and regalia recalling Stalinism.
  7. On both the previous two, the moderators' views on the intention and impact of use of such symbols will be final - not yours. Please be understanding if you are advised to change something.
  8. In general, if a sig/avatar represents your allegiances in-game and is clearly "in part", it is likely to be fine; if the moderators feel you are trying to demonstrate unpalatable political allegiances, or to use it in an attempt to ridicule or provoke others you WILL be asked to change it. RO is NOT the place to make any extremist political statements of any kind.
Examples:
So people get the idea, some examples that would be considered offensive, numbered as above:
  1. "Hitler", "Beria"
  2. "NKVD Blocking Detachment", "Einsatzgruppen"
  3. This one should be pretty obvious...
  4. So should this - and it includes calling all Germans "Nazis" and all Soviets/Russians "Commies". It got boring 50 years ago, so stop it.
  5. Use of swastikas, fasces, SS-runes and so on for the Axis.
  6. There is actually very little overt symbolism from the Stalinist era; the hammer-and-sickle isn't offensive per se.
A simple rule-of-thumb: many Europeans find Nazi symbolism of any sort offensive; many Americans still find Soviet symbolism offensive. Engage your brain before using.

Final Note: this is NOT open to debate, so please do NOT start whining and moaning if a moderator asks you to change something. They will advise at first, giving reasons, then, if you take no notice, they will step up the pressure through to banning.

Alien swarm on a desolate cell phone isn't advancing the market, its continuing an IV drip into the dead body that is the ouya.

Theres stepping outside of the box when theres solid ground outside of the box. Then theres this, stepping out of the box only to fall into a void.

This thread was less about calamity itself and more its selected medium for distribution. It actually wasn't even about that, it was about the likelihood of a steam port and when. You're right though, maybe Calamity is the best thing to happen to the ouya, for all 3 of its owners. The ouya hasn't caught on yet and it will not any time in the foreseeable future.

This whole thing is not directed at calamity itself. Merely its selected medium for distribution. The Ouya was DoA. There is no saving it and its never going to go anywhere. While I fully support open source things, ouya just isn't the answer. It might have worked in 2005, but its 2013 now.
You realize OUYA raised over $5,000,000 on Kickstarter, right? That's hardly DoA, and since it's a crowd-funded project, if there wasn't a market it wouldn't exist.

While I'd love to see a Steam release, I agree with larkstongue42 here. You're making an *** out of yourself.

If only you could realize how wrong that is.
I really implore you to read a couple of these articles.
The kickstarter success by no figment of the imagination shows its actual success upon release. Not even close, in fact.

Also be sure to see -

This thread isn't about ad hominem or specifics regarding my personality. I'm vocal and proud of it. These things need to be said.

There is no reason for a game not to be on an Ouya, goodness knows, that PoS needs all the help it can get. On the other hand, it would be commercial suicide, and incredibly stupid to make it an Ouya exclusive. If it isn't then good.

I know you are. But this just seems a bit excessive. Keep in mind I agree about a Steam release, but that's TWI's prerogative. Maybe my opinion will change.

I dont' get that gif you posted. I don't know how common that was. But yeah, from day one I had no problems.

Also you seem so set on it being a failed console just because of some poor sales. What is your yard stick? Other consoles? Smartphones? Electronics in general? I read an somewhere that said a number of developers are turning a profit, not a huge amount of money, but a profit none the less.

I won't complain at a steam release, it's not that I feel it should be an OYUA exclusive. I just don't understand why you are so vocal about it. Were you one of the people that had trouble with their OUYA and feel slighted by it?

Arblarg's question could really be broken down to "Why does this game exist?"

At the end of the day, what platform TWI develops for is kind of irrelevant. They're an independent developer and, because of that fact, I'm assuming they did this because it looked interesting. Not because they were pressured to. They decided on a gameplan (pun) that they would enjoy developing for.

As long as they enjoyed developing the game and the final product is solid, I don't think it matters what platform it's for.

In my personal opinion, I'm not particularly interested in the OUYA and, sure, I'm somewhat upset I won't be able to play this game (probably? you haven't said whether or not you're releasing it on Steam). But meh, I've missed tons of games because of their console exclusivity, it's nothing to cry about now.

Also, I see where Arblarg's coming from. This game could flop. But, as Ramm-Jaeger said, they're aware of the risk. I think it's safe to assume TWI isn't expecting all the gold in the world to just going to roll in. :P

Well said, if they can afford it then the only reason they should need is a personal favourite of mine. "Because I can."

Surprising, someone showing a sense of entitlement on the internet.

Seriously, they have supported killing floor more than most developers support their games. Numerous patches and updates over the years and much of it free. I've been around since Killing Floor was a mod and am thrilled it is still going strong. A sequel would be nice but until then they were able to get another developer to bring us this side game. It may be exclusive to Ouya for a little while but consider Ouya a testing ground for the game or something like steam greenlight. If people like it they might bring it to steam and add online play. However, with only local multiplayer they may be hesitant to bring it to steam.

Anyway, I quite like my Ouya. It's open enough that I get similar functionality to a pc though of course not as powerful. Lots of games, emulators, and xbmc make it versatile. There were issues at launch but so much has changed since then. There haven't been as many articles about Ouya recently but I have a feeling future articles are going to be more positive. There are other articles that have mentioned devs making some money off their games and show sales as not being bad overall. Most reviews of the similar gamestick have pointed to Ouya being the better console.

I appreciate Tripwire supporting Ouya and taking a chance on it. It's also nice to know that another developer handled the game so it's not taking up much resources for the company. I see this as a winning situation for everyone. Towerfall started as an Ouya exclusive and after gaining visibility and adding content is now coming to pc and ps4. I have a feeling a similar thing is going to happen with this game. Just be patient and enjoy all the updates you've gotten on the main killing floor game.

Reading comprehension experts : the thread.

The title of the thread is Steam release when.

The other thing is I have nothing against the gameplay aspect of calamity what so ever. My bout is entirely about the selected medium to distribute it. I just want to know when it is going to reach the core audience and better distributing platform, if ever. If somebody could answer that, I would be extremely grateful.

Lastly - my question would better be defined as 'why does the ouya exist?'. Simply stated, there is no good reason. For more information as to why it shouldn't please refer to any of the articles in my previous posts, or previous posts themselves. Again, this isn't about the gameplay of calamity, its about its method of distribution.

Once more, with gusto - Steam release when?
I am not the only person interested in the answer to this.

Yes that is the title but the op, whoever that is, started right in to talking about nothing but how the very existence of Ouya was a threat to his manhood so the conversation went that way. If you have a paragraph that talks 98% about Ouya and then the last sentence says "oh btw what about Steam?" I think most people will focus on the wrong topic.

Honestly I came on here to talk about the new game to see what others think and ask the devs some questions but at this point I am heading to a forum that does not bash consoles and devs but talks about the game lol.

Hell, be patient they well tell us if it is time. The game (KFC) was programmed using the Unity engine, which should make a PC port relatively easy. I personally have no doubt about a PC version of this game (they hinted at that in the past, re-watch that interview from this convention MODSonair PAX Prime 2013 - Killing Floor Calamity Interview - YouTube).

And OUYA exists because of kickstarter and a big bunch of people who thought it would be a great thing. Apparently TWI thinks the OUYA is great, I never played on an OUYA but I have my reasons to disagree with them. Simply consider this "exclusive" release on OUYA as a test for the game and the OUYA. The game will come to PC (I bet) and when it does the PC version will be more polished, have more content (more maps?), better tech (more enemies on the screen) and more features (4 player Coop instead of just 2). The wait will be worth it.

Stop giving so much crap at TWI for making this game and not (yet?) announcing Killing Floor 2.

Perhaps, but even still it was a simple question which I felt was reinforced by my reasoning against going ouya. If it were already on steam, or announced for steam, I wouldn't have to make a complaint about the ouya. Ouya is not a threat to me, but I feel bad for anybody that backed it and believed. Semi decent (albeit too late for its time) idea, with horrendous execution once it was made available to the public.

Its still relevant to this board. There are 3 other threads on this board specifically related to the game itself. My thread involves the issue of it not being where the core fans of tripwire interactive can access it.

Thank you. The most straight forward, non convolouted answer I've seen from anybody tripwire in a while. More like this please.

However, even then, is it wrong to discuss my disdain for the platform choice for calamity? I'm not alone in my opinions - as seen in :
