Server Proper Dedicated Server Shut Down?

Does anyone know what the proper way to shut down or restart my KF2 VDS instead of just closing the command prompt window? It seems too brutal to just close the command prompt window, I feel it could corrupt files shutting it down so hard.

I tend to use the ctrl+c keys to send a signal, and the server seems to respond to it by writing proper shutdown log lines in the console.
